Giving Tuesday reminds us why it's important to give back

“Free legal services, education, and helping those in need are charitable areas Ankin Law supported in 2024"

- Attorney Howard Ankin

Giving Tuesday was created to harness the power of social media and technology to promote charitable giving. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday, charitable giving gets its special day at a charitable time of the year.

Ankin Law chose to be involved this year on Giving Tuesday to give back and reinforce how important charitable giving is for all of us. I appeared on two news programs and the firm’s social media feed to discuss the charities Ankin Law supports to raise awareness and drive donations on Giving Tuesday.

The charity we’ve had the longest relationship with is Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS). The largest pro-bono legal service in the state provides free legal representation. It makes it possible for everyone to have access to justice and levels the playing field for all participants.

Food insecurity and education are other areas we support. With the increase in new arrivals to Chicago and decreased housing affordability, food insecurity has become even more critical in 2024. Ankin Law also sponsors the Teacher of the Month program on WGN, churches, unions, and White Sox Charities.

I’ve been fortunate to have a great family, friends, a good education, and to be surrounded by brilliant partners in my law practice. I try to pay it forward whenever I can.

Ankin Law strives to provide the best legal service for anyone injured in Chicago or the state of Illinois. I also want to leave the world better than when I came into it. I believe it’s essential for those who can contribute to do so to improve society in general.

Our accounting and distribution department is prepared for anything

Director of Accounting Yvonne Apigo and her team meet with clients at the end of the process to distribute settlement checks. Yvonne’s team sits down with each client and walks through the details of each settlement.

November and December are “settlement season.” It’s one thing to be busy during the holiday season and another to be flooded the way Ankin Law was in November. During the last week of the month, 75 clients visited our offices.

In this spotlight video, Yvonne Apigo talks about what it’s like to meet clients at the end of their case, help people in need, and expand her department.

Client Stories

Darnell’s mother knew best when it came to Ankin Law

When Darlene’s son, Darnell, was involved in a car accident, she knew just what to do. Having worked with Ankin Law for her own car accident in 2014, she recommended her son do the same after his car was t-boned n May 2023.

Like Darlene’s case a decade earlier, Ankin Law helped the family get the compensation they deserved. Attorney Raquel Gross and legal assistant Lauren Casapao worked on Darnell’s case. Learn more about their story and the gift Darlene brought for Raquel & Lauren.

Holiday 2024 is one for the record books

One of the best Ankin Law parties was also the most well-attended. 163 attorneys, staff members, friends and family gathered recently for our annual holiday party. Great food, drinks, and even a little spontaneous holiday music filled the festive space on the 27th floor of the Wit Hotel. Here is a portion of Howard’s speech to staff and highlights from the night. Watch here.
