Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? This is a question we have been asked often throughout the years and we now find ourselves asking our children and grandchildren. If you know a teen that is interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, encourage them to apply for our summer volunteen program or for the Dr. Gulshan S. Harjee Scholarship.

If you are a DeKalb Medical employee looking to advance your education while working at DeKalb Medical, consider applying for the Audrey and Jack Morgan Scholarship, offered exclusively to DeKalb Medical employees.

Read further below to meet a hospital board member as well as a member of our Physicians in Philanthropy. Hint, he's a familiar face!

Keep scrolling for pictures from this year's Foundation Holiday Party.  We can't believe January is almost here!
Volunteen Program Open For Application
Deadline Monday, February 29th

The teen volunteer program at DeKalb Medical gives high school students an opportunity to test potential careers, gain experience that might help them get into the college of their choice and learn what it is like to work in a large healthcare organization.

Each year, over 100 applications are reviewed to fill about 50 teen volunteer positions for the summer. In 2015, teen volunteers donated more than 1,300hours in a wide range of departments, providing valuable assistance to staff members, patients and families.

Please visit the Volunteer Services Web Page for
requirements and application.

Foundation Scholarships Available to Employees and Teens
Opportunities to pursue healthcare careers - Deadline Friday, April 29th

Supporting life-long learning and exciting careers in medicine has always been a part of the DeKalb Medical mission. If you are a DeKalb Medical employee and are feeling called to advance your education and contributions to the healthcare community, then please consider applying for the Audrey and Jack Morgan Foundation Scholarship.

We are also currently accepting applications for high school seniors interested in becoming doctors, patient care techs, licensed practical or registered nurses, healthcare social workers, pharmacy techs, or any other designation in healthcare through the Dr. Gulshan S. Harjee Scholarship.

For more information on both of these scholarships, please visit the Foundation website .  Applications are being accepted for both scholarships now through April. Scholarship award winners will be announced in the summer of 2016.

Michael Quinones, M.D.
Physicians in Philanthropy Spotlight

In his 21 years of service to DeKalb Medical patients, Dr. Michael
Quinones' mission has been to provide the best medicine and medical advice a general surgeon can give. Recently, he took that commitment even further with a generous donation to the DeKalb Medical Foundation to support the hospital's initiatives and advancements.

"Joining the Founders' Circle is just part of good citizenship and being a leader in our community. Anything that helps DeKalb Medical be a better place to deliver medicine is worth the investment," shares the Former Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff and current hospital board member.

For information about how you can be a part of Physicians in Philanthropy, please contact Elisabeth Nark, Manager, DeKalb Medical Foundation at 404.501.1344 or elisabeth.nark@dekalbmedical.org.
