Pacific Institute Mobilizes Global Water Crisis Action at COP28

The Pacific Institute joined business leaders, public servants, change makers, and civil society representatives from all over the world at COP28.


At the conference, the Water Resilience Coalition (a CEO-led initiative in partnership with the Pacific Institute and UN Global Compact) and European Space Agency announced seven pilot projects to advance digital monitoring in 100 of the world's most water-stressed basins.

The Pacific Institute's commitment to global water resilience was further emphasized in a press release by the UAE COP28 Presidency, Tajikistan, and the Netherlands, outlining significant water and climate-related outcomes. The press release acknowledges the pivotal role of the private sector in building water resilience across 100 basins by 2030, as demonstrated by the Water Resilience Coalition, UN Global Compact Forward Faster Water Resilience target, and the Business Leaders' Call for Water Action.

Water Resilience Coalition Set to Launch Mississippi River Water Action Collaborative

The Mississippi River Basin (MRB) hosts numerous water projects, initiatives, commitments, and investments. By leveraging existing resources and stakeholder expertise, there is substantial potential to catalyze and scale opportunities through collective action. Recently, the Water Resilience Coalition, in partnership with 3M, brought together community, government, NGO, and corporate stakeholders to create the blueprint for a Water Action Collaborative that can play the role of accelerating progress in the MRB. Keep an eye out for updates on this new initiative.
