Interfaith Outreach staff, frozen and thawed, celebrating their
Sleep Out survival

The Sleep Out 2017 launch included a Nov. 18 gathering of 200 youth of our community engaged in understanding the reality and impact of poverty in our midst and invited to find their role in addressing it. This was followed by an Interfaith board and staff parking lot Sleep Out, a sobering engagement with the reality of homelessness in our midst.

The pace of the many Sleep Out and holiday events can be dizzying, but there are always those graced moments, those clear glimpses of our community at its beautiful best that remind us of why the effort, why the pace, and why the joy that fills us.

One of those moments was the Dec. 1 Family Christmas Party, where over 350 moms and dads, kids, grandmas, grandpas, volunteers, staff, Santa Claus, Bullseye - the Target mascot, good food, a beautiful setting, lovely music, kids' crafts and books, and candy canes converged for a joyful celebration of family and community at Christmas. A lovely reminder of why the effort, why the pace, why the Sleep Out.

Heartfelt thanks to Target, Jake's City Grille, Domino's Long Lake Pizza, Cub Foods, Orono PTO, Marge and Ben Wiig, Judy and Warren Pillsbury, cookie bakers, Interfaith party co-chairs Kathy Blanchard and Linda Picek, volunteers, staff, Wayzata Community Church, and Santa Claus for making it happen.

We're over halfway to our Sleep Out 2017 goal, friends. Thank you! Thank you! for your help in bringing it home!
