Worcester’s Covid-19 Vaccine Mobile Equity Clinic Van Unveiled

Worcester’s Department of Health and Human Services has coordinated the City of Worcester’s Covid-19 Vaccine Mobile Equity Clinic since January of 2021. Through this effort, they have administered over 23,000 vaccine doses to over 14,000 individuals at over 380 mobile clinics. The Mobile Vaccine Team has relied on volunteer or personal vehicles to pack and transport materials - until now.

Together with the Worcester Department of Health and Human Services, GWCF unveiled a Covid-19 Vaccine Mobile Equity Clinic to service the community. The accessible van hosts hot and cold running water, restroom facilities, cabinetry, and appropriate lighting - creating a true health clinic setting on wheels that’s set to start rolling in early January 2022.

Special thanks to interim President/CEO Carolyn Stempler for spearheading this initiative with GWCF board member Dr. Matilde Castiel, MD, and 3B Auto Inc. owner Vinh Ly.

Youth for Community Improvement (YCI) is still taking applications for the YCI Class of 2022. This program is geared towards sophomores and juniors in high school who are interested in making an impact in their community. The 12-week program helps to develop public speaking, consensus building and advocacy skills amongst participants. Together, the group will develop a request for proposals, create an application and review proposals to award $25,000 in grant dollars to nonprofits.

The deadline for applications is January 21, 2022.
2022-2023 College Scholarships Available

Nearing its 45th year of awarding college scholarships, GWCF will soon be accepting applications for the 2022 – 2023 academic year, beginning January 3, 2022. Since the program’s founding in 1978, over 9,000 students have been awarded scholarships and over $13 million has been distributed. Last year, GWCF awarded over $680,000 to more than 375 local students.

High school seniors who live in Worcester County are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Students can apply online, and with a single application they can be considered for any of the Foundation’s 139 scholarships. Scholarships range in size up to $5,000 per year and are made based on a variety of criteria including financial need, area of study, community involvement, high school, and hometown.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, thousands of local students have been given access to higher education and a brighter future.
