Bowling at SugarBowl
Get Your Bowling Shoes on!

CVOA has teamed up with the SugarBowl in Carrabassett Valley to offer opportunities to members to enjoy some bowling fun in the coming months!

Eleven people took advantage of the first midweek CVOA Bowling Night at the Sugarbowl on Wednesday, November 16. Now that the ski season is upon us, we are hopeful there will be even more CVOAers taking advantage of this fun partnership.

The first weekend CVOA Bowling Night will be Saturday, December 3 from 5-7:00pm when it is only $25/hour per lane (up to 6 people per lane can split the fee!) and shoes are included. CVOA members will also get $1 off wine and draft beers!

On Wednesday, December 14  there will be another midweek special when the cost of bowling is $15/hour per lane (split between up to 6 bowlers), shoes included. The Sugarbowl is no longer offering two-fers on Wednesday, but Kerry is going to showcase menu specials every Wednesday! Last week it was yummy prime rib/prime rib sandwiches.

So put these dates on your December calendar, call or email your CVOA friends and come on out to support a local business, get some exercise and have some fun!

Annual Hike and Holiday Cookie Swap
We had a wonderful assortment of cookies last year. Plan to bring some home with you from this year's cookie swap.
Saturday, December 10

Join us for some delicious cookies, some wonderful appetizers, refreshing beverages and great company.  CVOA will meet at the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center to gather with our CVOA friends for an afternoon of fun and food.

Those of us that want a bit of outdoor exercise before eating we will meet at Campbell Field at 1 p.m. to hike/snowshoe along the Narrow Gauge.  This is a very easy, walking path along the Carrabassett River. Great for beginners. Come dressed appropriately. This is a weather dependent activity; it will be canceled in case of rain, sleet or extreme wind and cold.

The cookie swap is at 3 p.m. at the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center, 3000 Outdoor Center Road. Bring COOKIES, an appetizer to share and your beverage of choice.

Hope you can join us.

Range News
The season has come to an end....
Diane Stone takes aim...
But you can still use the range on your own....

The Range is winding down for the winter season.  The Rifle and Pistol Ranges will be accessible during the winter with plowed access.

There will be no more organized Trap Shoots, but if you are trained in use of the equipment, you may use the system.

However, the Trap Range will not be plowed.

The Five Stand concrete pad has been poured and construction will begin in the Spring.  We on the Range Committee wish you all a wonderful and snowy Winter!

Bar Harbor
Tapas at Havana Restaurant
October 12-14

On Friday, October 12th, ten hardy CVOA souls met up for food, drink, and laughter in Bar Harbor for our traditional fall outing.  We were able to skillfully pick the only rainy weekend of the year, but a little rain never dampens CVOA spirits.

Even though it was the start of off-season rates, the streets were full of people and cars parked everywhere.  In addition there was a cruise ship in the harbor, so there were lots of people.  The tourist season continues to stretch later into the fall.

Saturday was only partly rainy and people hiked, walked, or shopped until we met up at John and Betsy Chapman's room for potluck appetizers and stories of what we saw and did.  We opted for a light dinner of tapas at Havana Restaurant and called it a night.  On Sunday some of us met up at the new campground on Schoodic Point to reconnoiter for a future CVOA trip.  It is a stunning facility and will make for a great base camp for hiking and biking on Schoodic.

As always it is fun to get together with old friends and get to know new friends.
