Voters Pass Proposition 28:
Art and Music K-12 Education Funding Initiative
In November, California voters passed Proposition 28, also known as the Art and Music K-12 Education Funding Initiative. Proposition 28 creates a guaranteed annual funding stream for music and arts education for every student in every Pre-K through 12 grade public school in California without raising taxes. Learn more about Proposition 28 and the next steps of implementation at Create CA.
Currently, only 1 in 5 public schools in California has a full-time arts or music program. With the passing of Proposition 28, schools will be able to increase their arts and music education in both traditional arts and music classes, and contemporary arts like graphic design, film and video, while improving access and equity for all students throughout the State.
