Greetings! Merry Christmas! Lights, decorations and festivities are in full-swing here in Bethlehem. As the year closes out, we wanted to share some updates with you from BethBC and the community! The Shepherd Society hosted a Christmas party for those in need in our community recently, and you'll want to check out the video footage! Additionally, as you're retelling the Christmas story this year, read "Room in the Inn " featured below to better understand Bethlehem both then and now. With Christmas parties and events taking place across the city, perhaps some of the most special were the ones that were hosted by the charitable branch of BethBC, the Shepherd Society. The events were put on for children in the community who suffer financially, have special needs, or come from broken homes. The parties were full of activities, gifts for the children, a Christmas play and the gospel message. Read More

Pastor Hanna Massad, a of BethBC graduate, released his first book under the title of  Pastor from Gaza,  which gives an interesting history on the Christian community in Gaza. Hanna Massad is an alumnus of the College in Gaza, as well as a former professor there. He is now living in the United States. He was born to a poor Greek Orthodox family and raised in the midst of the injustice and violence of Palestine’s Gaza Strip. He hungered for God and learned to love unconditionally the people who hated him. Read More

That is certainly what happened to our freshman student Ghada Bannoura. Popular translations and re-telling of the Christmas story have left an imprint in our minds as to what we envision Bethlehem of 2,000 years ago to look like. The quaint yet overloaded and crowded Bethlehem during the census of Caesar Augustus sets the scene for the holy family arriving the night of Mary’s delivery of baby Jesus in the stable. With no room for Joseph and his pregnant wife in the inn, they are turned away to a stable where the cradle for their baby would be a manger, a feeding trough for animals.
