Solstice Blessings THOTH Community,

A DESPACHO CEREMONY, or ritual feeding of the unseen world, includes the creation of a beautiful and balanced mandala-like offering on a large piece of paper placed on the ground. There are dozens of types of despacho ceremonies performed by the Andean people of Peru and within the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition. Your ceremony can be done in solitude or as a group. Be fearless and enjoy yourself; your intention will be received by Spirit!

This month we celebrate the Solstice. What better time to create a despacho as an expression of our gratitude for all we have received this past year. Whether you are a seasoned PMT practitioner or new to our community, we invite you to explore a document entitled Basic Despacho, and a tutorial video featuring don Oscar, Creating a Basic Despacho. Both can be found on our website Ritual Arts Earth Offerings page, or see our Featured Video section below. In addition, you may enjoy this article by Writer’s Forum contributor Deborah Sullivan, Ofrenda: A Lov e Off ering.

Featured Teacher Mona Rain

Mona Rain began her personal journey on the shamanic path nearly 20 years ago, searching for her own healing and deep connection to Spirit. An astute holistic health practitioner since 1990, she had an inner knowing something more was awaiting her. For the past 10 years, she has spent much of her time traveling extensively in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, having intimate experiences with sacred sites, various shamanic lineages, teachers, and ceremonies in North and South America.

Her passionate desire to share these powerful experiences with others led her to the transformational rituals and living Lineage of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition and don Oscar’s profound wisdom. In earnest, she began her apprenticeship and was immediately blessed with messages from the ancestors to share these teachings with others.

After becoming a Sanctioned Teacher in 2017, Mona expanded her business and founded Chacaruna Healing, Shamanic Teachings & Journeys, LLC offering teachings, mentoring, coaching, shamanic healing and leads sacred journeys in Peru. She shares the wisdom of the ancestral PMT Lineage, and profound awakenings on Pachamama’s lands as she divides her service upon the planet, living in Florida and in Cusco, Peru; sharing with an open heart and humble service for the next 7 generations.

Mona is offering Part I of the Five-Part Apprenticeship The Call to Heal, beginning January 25, 2019 in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Inspiration from the Community
This unusual and beautiful despacho by Jennifer Sadhana is a great example of how personal creative expression is a welcome, and even an essential ingredient in the offering. In her words:

My intention for this despacho was to offer prayers of gratitude to my deceased loved ones, especially my parents, and to ask for their on-going love and support as I continue on my path. I was inspired by the colorful Day of the Dead skulls, and so instead of making the despacho in the traditional way, I created the skull image using colored sugar, flowers, candies, and kintus arranged on black paper to represent the dark world of the unconscious and the unknown mystery. The despacho was assembled with love and specific prayers were offered to my family members as well as to don Celso and don Benito (don Oscar’s mentors) for their guidance and patience as I attempt to honor these traditions.

Creating a Basic Despacho
A detailed demonstration of the making of this beautiful gift of ayni and gratitude to Pachamama, the Apukuna and all the unseen guardians of nature and the Spirit Realm. The offerings are gracefully assembled on a large piece of paper placed on the ground. Then, it is gently folded up and offered from the heart by burning it in a sacred fire, burying it in the Earth or offering it to water such as a river, lake or the ocean. For a companion reference, download Basic Despacho.
