Steve Morency, M.A. Ford

Board Chairman, Retires

On December 9th, a dinner was held to recognize the tenure of M.A. Ford Board Chairman, Steve Morency. Steve is the 3rd generation of the Morency family to lead the company.

Steve began work at M.A. Ford during the summer of 1966, working in the factory on Rockingham Road. He attended the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Architectural Engineering in June of 1971. After college, Steve began his working career with Montgomery Elevator (now Kone Elevator), working in their Moline, IL, Denver, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT offices. In 1976, he resigned from Montgomery Elevator and returned to Davenport to work for his father at M.A. Ford. His father, Mal Morency, believed it was important to understand how cutting tools were manufactured; Steve spent his first year at M.A. Ford working in the factory in all the different departments. He then went to work for Laverne Schumann, the company’s National Sales Manager. He traveled throughout the United Sates and many European and Asian markets. In 1991, Steve was promoted to President of M.A. Ford when Stan Hill retired. He continued to lead the Company as President and then Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman for over 25 years.

Steve will continue to serve on the M.A. Ford Board of Directors. Robert Hill will take his place as Board Chairman and CEO.
