"Dynamic overrepresentation of accumbal cues in food- and opioid-seeking rats after prenatal THC exposure"

This study found that prenatal exposure to THC results in the development of an at-risk phenotype for opioid-seeking later in life. This was due to a rewiring of the fetal brain reward system to cause a heightened increase in dopamine release. These dopamine effects were more pronounced in males, who showed increased vulnerability for opioid relapse. This study highlights a need for enhanced responsiveness for mitigation strategies in the use of cannabis during pregnancy
