Immanuel E-Newsletter
The season of Advent that leads into Christmas is to be a season of preparation and expectation. We will hear the words of the Prophets of the Old Testament telling us to pay attention, to look to the future, and to put our hope and trust in God.
Given everything that is happening in our world today, everything happening in our communities & families, the practice of watching for God is as important as ever. Where is the love of God alive and active? How is God moving in my own life? It is important during this busy holiday season to slow down and practice looking for God. This is what we look to do at Immanuel this season.
As the nights grow longer, we expect to see the light of God shining and leading us through this season. Here’s what’s in store at Immanuel as we grow together in faith...

At Christmas we connect with the ones we love. But what if you are a child with a parent in prison - feeling lonely, abandoned, and hurt? Through Angel Tree, you can connect a child with their parent behind bars and offer joy and hope to a prisoner's family. We contact families, buy and wrap Christmas gifts, and deliver them - along with a message of love and the Good News about Jesus - in the name of the incarcerated parents. Look for the Angel Christmas Tree at our church on Thanksgiving Eve Nov. 21 st ! If you have any questions or would like to help deliver presents, please contact Rich McWherter 262-215-1243
Cheer on Immanuel's Praise Team on the streets of Lake Geneva at the 43rd Annual Electric Christmas Parade on December 1st, at 5pm! The festivities begin at 5, but we plan to meet at 4pm so everyone will be in their places. We will be heralding our Savior's birth with live music on a moving float and there will be room for others to join in the festivities. Come and bring your love for Immanuel! Questions, contact Adam Smith or Jeff Bakken.
DECEMBER 2nd & 9th
Head down to the Fair Trade Market in the Fellowship Hall the first 2 Sundays in December. Global Hands Fair Trade store will be set up, as well as the youth bake sale, and perhaps other opportunities to pick up some holiday treats. Come to the Fellowship Hall on Sunday morning. The beauty of Fair Trade is that the artisans and providers of the products receive a livable wage. Our hope is also to have some great fellowship and fun in the, uhh.. ‘Fellowship’ Hall this December!
Our Custodian Steve Sawar got a job with tremendous opportunity. We were sad to see him go but are so happy for him and his family as he begins a new job. We welcome a new Head Custodian: Rick Bromeland. Rick will oversee the care of the building and is half time. Rick took over at the end of September and is getting up to speed with Immanuel. We are so grateful for his presence and look forward to working with him going forward.
The Bells of Immanuel: Rehearses Sundays 9:15AM
The Bells of Immanuel rehearse on Sundays from 9:15 to 10AM downstairs in the music room, if you want to attend the 9:45 service you may leave. Immanuel’s celebrated handbell choir rings recognizable church music, including traditional repertoire, classical sacred literature, and more recent compositions. It is a multigenerational choir and NO musical training is necessary!!! If you can’t commit to every Sunday, talk to Ellen, director, about being a bell substitute ringer! Contact her at if interested or just show up for rehearsal. You will be shown how to ring and which part to read. Its lots of fun & not too difficult!!
Christmas Cantata: Rehearses Wednesdays 6:45 PM
CALLING ALL MUSICIANS! Rehearsals for the Christmas Cantata will be at 6:45 PM Every Wednesday until Cantata Sunday, with the exception of the Wed. before Thanksgiving. This is an opportunity to grow your musical gifts and to have good fellowship with your fellow musicians and disciples of the Lord. I cannot wait to begin this year's cantata and to make some incredible music with all of you again. Experience is not necessary and rehearsal attendance is strongly recommended. There will be CDs and Music Available at the Ministry Fair and at rehearsals. Hope to see a lot of returning faces and many new ones as all are welcome.
Praise Team: Rehearses Wednesdays at 8PM
Each week the members of Praise Team faithfully lead worship in song at the 9:45 AM and 11:07 AM worship services. Members also help to lead worship for special services. Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 8-9PM! (this will change back to 7:30-8:30PM once choir ends) Some musical training would be preferred and members are asked to attend as many rehearsals as possible. Contact Adam Smith at (262)325-7122 or at if you are interested in joining the team!
“RevivaL” Youth Worship Band: Rehearses Tuesdays at 7 PM
Youth Worship Band, RevivaL, meets every Tuesday from 7pm-8pm for rehearsal in the Sanctuary. RevivaL leads worship on Wednesday Nights for their fellow youth to help prepare them for a night of learning more about our Awe Inspiring God. Worship will be from 6:05PM until 6:20PM on Wednesdays. Contact Adam Smith at (262)325-7122 or with questions or if interested in joining.
Fellowship Hour
Beverages are available following the first service at the Welcome Center Counter in the Gathering Space. Help yourself to information about Immanuel on the counter.
Our Fellowship Hour follows the first service in the Fellowship Hall on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month. Join us for treats, beverages, and conversation. It’s a great way to meet new friends, and to share in fellowship with others. All are welcome!! Fellowship is a fundamental need for a thriving church. Many thanks to those who help serve for this ministry! If you’re interested in helping, WE NEED YOU!! Sign up on our Website by clicking “Worship Sign Up” or contact Evie Schulz at 262-203-0463 or email her at
On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, following the first service, there will be a "Feast or Famine" Fellowship Hour in which members and friends may bring in any treat or snack as they wish without advanced commitment. Based on who decides to contribute, it may be a feast or a famine. However, coffee and other beverages will still be available to enjoy so that all can experience what we feel is a very valuable time of fellowship together.
This counts towards your Confirmation requirements. Please email to sign up for a Sunday to serve!
Welcome Center Volunteers Needed
Do you like to meet people? We are looking for some fun people to be on the Welcoming Team. They set up coffee and water in the Welcome Center, greet and help connect visitors to members between services. Visitors to Immanuel always comment on how welcoming Immanuel is. We are incredibly grateful for your help! Contact Edith Draper at 248-1861 with any questions.
Assistance with Parking on Sundays
Assistance with parking is available on Sundays. Inquire at the Welcome Center if valet parking would help you, and we will add you to the schedule.
Parking on Sundays and Special Services
Able bodied members are encouraged to park in the outer parking stalls or the Middle School Lot when they can, so visitors and seniors can be closer to the entrances. Many Thanks! It’s a wonderful challenge to be short on parking spaces! Praise God, who gives the growth!!

IGNITE Middle School & High School Youth Group
We are so excited for another awesome year of Immanuel’s Youth Group! Be sure to keep Wednesdays on your calendar as church night! We’ve decided to have just one name for both Middle School and High School youth group - Ignite!
This year for High School at Immanuel, we hope to begin to tackle the ‘confirmation is graduation from church’ mentality. We’d like to build a solid community of High School students on Wednesday nights - a community where all teenagers know they are welcome and safe. We had an incredible experience on the Mission Trip, building a strong team of High School students. Now we want to draw that into Wednesday nights. We will grow together in faith, in love toward God and one another. Each week, students know that they can find a safe haven to get their spiritual batteries recharged to get the rest of the way through each week. See you on Wednesday nights!

Merry & Bright… It’s time to IGNITE! It will be a busy month for our youth! These are our upcoming events and dates within December. *If you haven’t downloaded the REMIND app, please do so NOW and get the latest updates from your super cool youth leaders!

Please let the Youth Leaders know if you can drive, or help in any capacity.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16th - Youth Sponsored Coffee Hour
FRESHLY BREWED!! IGNITE youth are sponsoring coffee hour every third Sunday of each month!! We are asking for donations of treats, as well as parents and students to choose a Sunday to serve within this beloved ministry. Wednesdays - Ignite (Confirmation)
5:30 - 7:30 pm
Our regular Ignite youth group will begin to integrate Pr. Sara into the ‘large group’ teaching time. On the surface, Wednesdays will look and feel pretty familiar. Expect to continue to have fun, build friendships, and learn important spiritual lessons. Confirmation students, on top of Wednesday Ignite, will be expected to complete Worship reports, fulfill serving requirements, and have an experience in summer Bible camp or the Mission Trip. We expect some students to participate fully on Wednesdays who are not on the ‘confirmation track.’ Our hope is that everyone will find Ignite to be a place where we grow in love for God and toward one another - following Jesus every step of the way!
We were blessed to have almost 50 members and friends of Immanuel complete one of the two orientations recently offered.  WE ARE NOW READY TO GO and looking for folks we can assist. Are you are in need assistance (or know a member or friend of our congregation) , especially those recovering from an illness, surgery, or are elderly, that unable to provide what is necessary to help them remain in their home, and do not have relatives close by to assist?  If you could you use some (short term) help in the following areas, please fill out, if for yourself, or encourage them to complete an application, and turn it into the church office or one of the pastors:
Errands, Shopping, Light Housework, Meal Preparation (short term), in home visiting or phone calls, transportation (especially for church or medical needs), minor home repairs, minor auto repairs, computer/electronics assistance and/or seasonal needs (snow removal, lawn mowing, raking, weeding, window washing).

Core Team Members: Mike Brooks, Judy and Steve Guy, Marilyn Heiden, Madelyn Killian, Jill and Bob Rosenthal, Evie Schulz and Nancy Williams.

There are certain policy restrictions in effect, especially, for financial costs of repairs, but our volunteers do not expect any reimbursement for their time. If any person wishes to make a contribution in appreciation for services or to aid in providing services, but we suggest that you make a donation by placing whatever amount you wish in an envelope marked "Hearts2Care" and place it in the offering or drop off at the office. Any donations will be earmarked to help those this ministry is serving who may not be financially able to cover   certain expenses.  You may also consider contributing a gift card from a local gas station, grocery or retail store.

"Fleece Be With You” TreeHouse Blankets
Looking for an easy and fun mission project to do? Make a Blanket, Make a Difference is what the Wednesday morning quilters are all about and they NEED your help! Their mission is to continue to provide no-sew fleece blankets for the children who come to the TreeHouse! These children range anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age and have suffered suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect. This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "Lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth them while the process is taking place.  If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly and it’s fun!  Contact Jackie Kuehl for more info. Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket). Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Fleece Be With You" on the outside and can be left with Bethany in the church office. This as an ongoing project. Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.
Lay Communion Visitors
Newcomers welcome to join this important ministry for shut-in members. Pastor Carl is adding new Shut-Ins to the list as he visits them. Please contact Jeri Bozovsky at 203-5400 for more info.   Also, if you have names of members who have indicated they would be in need of a visit please let Kristin or Bethany know and they will be added to the list of people enjoying visits from this wonderful ministry.
Tree House
Staff and volunteers are preparing for a Christmas gathering of food and sponsorship for gifts for children. Watch for more information. See Evie if you are interested in contributing or helping with either. As always, our congregation has been more than generous sharing our blessings with those less fortunate.
St. Vincent De Paul (Milwaukee) Soup Kitchen
Our next service date is February 17th. A Carpool leaves from Immanuel at 4pm. We hope that many of you who wish to serve can do so. We are sometimes overwhelmed with the number of “guests” that come with the few of us there to serve them. Your participation in this ministry is greatly appreciated, especially from those served who tell us “May God Bless You”.

+ THANKS to everyone who attended the Seniors Moving & Growing Even held on Nov. 2nd and 3rd here at Immanuel! Nearly 100 members of our Church and the community gathered to hear Dr. Roland Martinson talk about the role of Seniors in today’s Churches and his about-to-be-released book “Elder’s Rising: The Power and Perils of Aging”. The program seemed to be well-received and hopefully provided much food for thought and action.
The Core/Leader Team is beginning to plan another event for the Holidays with a tentative date of Wednesday, Dec. 12th. While fun and food will naturally be a part of the “party”, friendship and Christian fellowship are also essential, especially at this time of year.
And if YOU are interested in what a Senior Ministry might look like and how it might benefit our Immanuel family, and have ideas and suggestions to share, please contact one of the people below! Watch your bulletins for more info and come join us on Dec. 12th!  Dr. Martinson’s book will be available THIS MONTH!

+ We LOVE Immanuel Lutheran Church and all you do for us! THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for the fleece blankets! Five are going out the door today! Warmly - Kathy Brown - The Tree House
+ Dear friends at Immanuel Lutheran, You helped make a big impact in our community by all your donations to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry! Many THANKS for your consistent generosity, to assist us in caring for those in need in our community. On behalf of all the 150-200 families each month who come to us for help in putting food on their tables - THANK YOU! - Lake Geneva Food Pantry Staff

+ THANK YOU for your months of prayers for our daughter & her husband and the life of this sweet baby girl, our new granddaughter. We are grateful for God’s love and support thru this. And all God’s people said Amen! - Candace & Bernie Smedley

+ Words are inadequate to express my THANKFULNESS to our Pastors and members of Immanuel who lovingly have shared their talents with me following my recent fall. Pastor Carl visited me with gifts of a beautiful Prayer Shawl and Quilt. These things along with prayers, cards, and calls from all have been a strength to me, as the gift of God’s healing was made known.
God Bless You All - Erlene Wille
+ To Our Faithful Friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, We would like to acknowledge the most generous donation of more than 20 NEW sleeping bags and 10 FULL bags of winter coats for our St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program that you have helped out with for so many years. With the weather getting to the freezing mark in the evening, your Church has come through once again in a special way to provide a warm hug to the many people who are less fortunate and who rely on the goodness of others to simply survive.
The sleeping bags and coats are given to those who are truly homeless. They live under bridges, under porches and anywhere they can find a little bit of comfort for the night. Most of us can simply turn up the thermostat when it gets chilly but our guests must rely on adding layers to make it through the day and night. With your donation they will be able to sustain a lifestyle that we can only wonder about. Your loving gesture will not only add warmth to their bodies, but also to their hearts, knowing that someone that they may have never met cares for them. It’s like having a guardian angel with them throughout the day! You are all ambassadors of Jesus and are genuinely appreciated by everyone here at the Meal Site!
Blessings to all, Casy Gill, Hand’s of Christ Conference.
