ACTION ALERT: Urge Legislators to Vote No on Senate Bill 275
A broad coalition of prominent environmental, public health, climate, environmental justice, sustainable farming advocacy, and animal protection groups firmly oppose SB 275. The lame-duck session gives lawmakers an opportunity to advance legislation that protects the health and welfare of Michiganders, not focus on corporate giveaways to Michigan's biggest polluters that will do little to tackle climate change or protect the environment. This bill only deepens reliance on fossil fuels and diverts resources from zero-emission energy sources like wind, solar, and geothermal. Contact your legislator and Governor Whitmer and voice your opposition to self-serving policies shaped by oil and gas interests. We must redirect the flow of money away from destructive factory farms and biofuels and toward sustainable agricultural and truly clean renewables.

Goodwill This Holiday Season
Guest column written by Valerie Schey, VegMichigan Board Member
As a board member of VegMichigan, I wanted to share this inspirational story of goodwill and kindness as the holiday season approaches.
Many of us do not have the opportunity to get to know animals who are being raised for food, but my friend Dawn, who lives in the country, walked past a farm with a group of piglets everyday, getting to know them. She regularly stopped to sing to them, pet them, and give them treats.
Dawn grew incredibly fond of the piglets, and she bonded with one in particular whom she named, Frida. Frida had a sweet and gentle nature, and Dawn saw how Frida even befriended the kittens who lived on the farm. Read Full Article Here

Ann Arbor Vegetarian Cooperative House Reopening
Heiwa House was formed as an activist cooperative 40 years ago. It had been a vegetarian cooperative whose members were often involved in activist projects in the Ann Arbor area. In the spring of 2024, the coop house took a break, major remodeling was done, and an intention was set to reestablish a cooperative in the fall of 2025. The group is looking for individuals, small groups, or families who share these values and would be interested in living cooperatively. If you are interested in this cooperative living opportunity or would like to know more, please email 530springcollective@gmail.com. To read more, click here.
