Monthly Newsletter - December 2016
From our family to yours, we wish you a happy holiday season.
O.C.E.A.N.S. LLC is a Jacksonville Beach, Florida based company that brings together decades of experience in improving maritime interdiction, naval architecture, survivability analysis, port and border security systems, piracy and terrorism mitigation, enterprise architecture, software development, systems life cycle management, systems engineering, training, exercise, evaluation, research and development.
Our Year In Review
O.C.E.A.N.S. LLC's headquarters, located in Jacksonville Beach. Our second story office is no more than 600 feet away from the surf of the Atlantic Ocean.

The building was constructed in the early 1900's. Originally a private residence, it is now home to O.C.E.A.N.S. and a  bakery cafe downstairs.

2016 was an impressive year for O.C.E.A.N.S. LLC, and we are proud of our growth and accomplishments with no signs of slowing momentum. We celebrate 1 full year of consolidated operations in Jacksonville at our headquarters, pictured above. A centrally located place to call home enabled our ability to expand our staff and offerings.

Our company grew from a staff size of 3 at the end of 2015 to 8 at the end of 2016. With the acquisition of Gerry Bowe, Jeff Mayer, Will Lusk, Matt Clark, and Mark DuPont, O.C.E.A.N.S.' range of technical and tactical expertise grew exponentially.

The increased staff size inherently brings a wider network of friends and relationships which solidifies O.C.E.A.N.S.' footing in the maritime and border security sector. Since the beginning of the year, we are now affiliated with professional organizations such as the Propeller Club of Jacksonville and the Caribbean Shipping Association.

With these changes came an increased need for travel. In addition to travel necessary to support projects such as the Apex Border Situational Awareness and Coastal Surveillance System programs, our entire team was present at several maritime security and commercial shipping conferences across the United States and Caribbean.

A fault-tolerant software experiment by Dr. Matthew Clark will be launched into space on December 9. The HTV-6 spacecraft, used to resupply the International Space Station, will be launched from Japan at 8:26 EST and will be televised on NASA TV or online at https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public. We can't think of a more fitting and symbolic end to our year - we're on our way to new horizons in the future.

Mark DuPont Honored
At a NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) workshop in Biloxi, COO Mark DuPont was awarded the U.S. Coast Guard's Meritorious Public Service Award, presented by The Commandant.

"Mr. DuPont recognized the need for a national all-hazards response training standard to integrate state and local assets as force multipliers during large scale emergency response," according to the citation.

"His selfless leadership and dedicated performance in promoting recreational boating safety are most heartily commended and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard."

Mark was also honored with a plaque and clock from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Marine Training Division, in recognition for his continued support of marine law enforcement training.
Article by William Lusk Featured in Caribbean Maritime Magazine
William Lusk, Program Manager, had an article titled "Pirates of the Caribbean," published in October by Caribbean Maritime. The article shines light on the current state of piracy and armed robbery against commercial vessels in the region.

The article suggests that these incidents are relatively rare, with 45 reported attacks between 2011 and 2015. Using this data, William was able to draw several conclusions to help stakeholders understand the nature of the threat posed.

Caribbean Maritime is the official journal of the Caribbean Shipping Association, the voice of the Caribbean shipping industry.  It was launched in 2007 in conjunction with UK publisher Land & Marine Publications Ltd and is published three times each year in January, May and October to coincide with the Caribbean Shipping Association meetings.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action).

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
