Happy Holidays and New Year

Last month, we asked if it was over yet. Well, just about. What is there to say about 2020 that hasn't already been said? We can say that we are very proud of our business community and how they have responded to this challenging year. So many of you stepped up when our community needed you most. While a lot of people and businesses struggled this year, and we certainly feel for them, a lot of our members had a banner year. For that we are also grateful. There's a lot of positivity and fight in Hopewell and Prince George, and we are proud to have each and every one of you as partners in the Chamber. Happy Holidays to you all and may you have blessed New Year! Please scroll down for Chamber updates, news headlines, tips, and events!
New Chamber President

We're excited to welcome our 2021 Chamber Board President, Lacie Leming!

Lacie Leming has been a lifetime resident of the Hopewell/Prince George area. She was raised in Hopewell, and attended Hopewell Public Schools. She and her husband, David, own and operate a power washing company, Budz with Sudz, and participate in regional volunteering and events. Lacie has spent most of her professional career in management consulting, focusing on the healthcare and insurance industries. Recently, she moved to a new role in Clinical Programs at Cohere Health, Inc. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2019, and will serve as President in 2021.
On Our Departing President...

What can we say about our departing President, Denny McDermott, but thank you so much!? Denny has been a fearless leader through an intense time of unprecedented change and uncertainty for our little Chamber. With the help of a great Board, together, we were able to navigate 2020 and come out in great shape.

Special thanks to Mayor Gore and Hopewell City Council for recognizing the Chamber's 100th Birthday at the Council Meeting on December 7th.

Hopewell Downtown Partnership Receives Grant to Promote 5 & Dime

You may have seen our 5 & Dime Itinerary on the new visithpg.com Tourism website highlighting things to do in Hopewell and Prince George, as well as on the other side of the River in Charles City County. Well, the 5 & Dime concept is growing! The Hopewell Downtown Partnership got a grant from Virginia Tourism Corporation, as well, to market this itinerary and further promote Hopewell and Prince George as tourism destinations. In an age where travel is far from normal, attracting visitors from closer afield for domestic road trips is essential and likely to be our best chance at increasing food and lodging tax revenue in 2021. Member Spotlight: WinSupply Takes Lead in Southpoint/Crosspoint Food Drive for the PG Food Bank
From Don McCall: "We just held the second portion of our semi-annual food drive with our neighbors in the Southpoint and Crosspointe Business Parks. Our theme for this event was "Give Thanks - Give Food". With the help of 460 Welding and a big help from US Merchants, we were able to donate over 330 lbs of non-perishable food items to the Prince George Food Bank. Andrea Barnes, the director was grateful for the donation and said that they are now providing services to over 900 residents each month! She also praised the Prince George business community for year round support. Large food companies including Food Lion, Goya Foods, and Perdue provide daily and weekly donations."

Well done, guys!
