Director's Corner

To all in Savannah Presbytery,

Today I helped “deck the halls” of First Presbyterian Church in Savannah which allowed me to picture all of our churches as beehives of activity knowing you are doing the same where you are. The Advent and Christmas season is a sustained period of the Church being at its best – decorating, giving, collecting, celebrating, praying, singing, welcoming, hoping, loving, uniting.I am thankful to have a ministry here in south Georgia with all of you where hearts are knit together in the Spirit of the risen Christ.

With the beginning of Advent, our new Christian year is underway. Savor this seasonand find joy in knowing that you are not alone in walking the path of Christ. Challenging days will face us again this year – they always come. But you have committed your life to Christ and joined with others as a member or leader of a congregation and your congregation is one of thirty-two congregations in our presbytery which has some 3000 members… and your presbytery is one of 166 presbyteries in the country which, in total, have some 8900 congregations with 1.14 million Presbyterians.

In the information we share in our monthly newsletters, we hope you realize you are indeed “one in a million.” You are unique and your ministry is one of its kind for God’s kingdom. But we also hope you realize that there are many opportunities for you to walk the Christian way with others – through shared learning, worship, and mission experiences.

The Presbytery’s staff and volunteer leaders hope you will find a way to enjoy the gifts that Savannah Presbytery has to offer this year. We certainly wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Blessings,

Rev. Deanie Strength

Updated Faith Enrichment

Conference Information

Based on his groundbreaking book, Becoming a Blessed Church, Graham Standish has helped hundreds of churches ground their churches spiritually so they can thrive in worship, ministry, and mission. His approach turned around a congregation that had declined for decades, as he led it to become a continually growing, thriving congregation.

Join us for Savannah Presbytery’s 45th Annual Faith Enrichment Conference, February 21-22nd, 2025, at Epworth by the Sea, Saint Simons Island, where he will share not only his approach to church transformation, but also newer insights and approaches he’s developed as a clergy spiritual director/coach and church consultant in helping pastors and churches thrive.

Please use the following items to promote and register for Faith Enrichment 2024. The Vital Congregations workshop has been replaced by Imagine Together; The Synod of South Atlantic led by Valerie Young, Synod Executive and Stated Clerk.

PC(USA): Around the Table

PC(USA) began developing the Around the Table initiative with a Lily endowment prior to the pandemic and it continues to gain significant momentum. As new generations emerge, we have come to understand how faith is experienced in new ways particularly around Christian practices. We believe that the time for learning new skills as leaders and reaching our parents and caregivers in new ways is upon us. Around the Table provides skills and training for parents and caregivers individually and bringing them together with their intergenerational faith communities that work to engage the gospel in the world.

The following podcast is part of the work. They began by providing episodes to help parents and caregivers start dialogue about faith at home and in the second season began episodes to discuss difficult topics. The podcasts have guests that are knowledgeable and engaging. Check it out here:
