Las Colonias APA Great Place Nomination
Each year the American Planning Association (APA) selects places in Colorado that represent the characteristics of a great place, including having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow. The River Park at Las Colonias recently received the APA Great Places in Colorado award.
North Avenue Enhanced Transit Corridor Study
The Regional Transportation Planning Office (RTPO) and the City of Grand Junction are leading an Enhanced Transit Corridor Study on North Avenue from 1st Street to the I-70 Business Loop. This project will define a vision for North Avenue and identify a set of prioritized infrastructure projects to make the corridor more comfortable for people biking, walking, and taking transit.
Save-A-Life Jacket Program
The Colorado Riverfront Foundation will fully fund the grant request made by the Save-A-Life Jacket Program in 2022! This funding will let the program build additional kiosks for loaner life jackets, stock the kiosks with life jackets, and provide a budget for updated signage. The program runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, giving the program time this winter to develop a plan and prepare for next year’s boating season. The city supports the program with logistics, but the availability of loaner life jackets is primarily volunteer-led.
Westlake Park Improvements
Westlake Park has undergone a significant renovation over the past six months thanks to a Community Development Block Grant that includes new trees, turf, a putter’s disc golf course, and skate park improvements. The Parks Crews are replacing and improving the post and cable surrounding the parking and a post and cable to the east side of the park to establish an entrance for maintenance staff. In addition, the special projects crew will pour a concrete curb and gutter surrounding nearly half of the skate park to stop debris from entering and settling on the skating surface
