Grand Canyon Boulevard, Williams, AZ
Woodson Engineering and Surveying in conjunction with the City of Williams has completed the design and construction of the Grand Canyon Boulevard Improvements Project. This project consisted of the widening of a 3-lane major collector street to 5 lanes, waterline replacement, select curb and gutter replacement, sidewalk ramp replacement, and pavement markings. In addition, two new stop-controlled intersections were introduced to provide speed calming for the road. Woodson provided topographic survey, design, ADEQ permitting, bid phase services, construction phase services, and as-builts. Woodson also coordinated with ADOT to utilize the HURF Exchange program for project funding assistance. This project was completed on time and on budget and was opened in the summer of 2019 (see photos below).

Woodson Using FLO-2D Modeling Software
In a recent flood study conducted in a municipality in northern Arizona the hydrologic analysis was performed using a FLO-2D model. FLO-2D software is a powerful tool that can generate 2-dimensional dynamic flood routing models that simulate channel flow, unconfined overland flow, and street flow. It can also simulate a flood over complex topography and roughness while reporting on volume conservation. The hydrologic analysis in our study includes four FLO-2D domains for the offsite watershed area and one FLO-2D domain for the onsite watershed area to accommodate varying grid sizes.

To learn more about our capabilities in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis please contact Rick Schuller, PE at rschuller@woodsoneng.com.
GIS Mapping for the City of Winslow
We recently completed a GIS database for the City of Winslow to assist them with their infrastructure management. This new map allows City staff to readily access information for all of their water and sewer infrastructure. Of the many benefits this new product provides, one of paramount importance to them was the ability for their field crews to quickly locate water valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and pipe locations while in the field with user friendly software. They can now access this data from any electronic device and from any location.
Staff News
Not only did Woodson Engineering and Surveying celebrate 25 years in business in 2019, but we celebrated several staff anniversaries.

Rick Schuller , PE, who serves as Associate Principal has been with Woodson for 20 years - longer than anyone else, with the exception of Mark Woodson. Rick leads our Engineering Department.

Sirisha Kalluri, PE, CFM, is a Project Manager and has been at Woodson for 5 years. She manages Woodson’s floodplain studies and analyses and stormwater design.

Robert Willett has been at Woodson for 5 years and is our Senior Designer. Robert has over 20 years of experience and specializes in traffic and transportation projects.

Ponderosa Trails
As Woodson celebrated our 25th Anniversary this year we have revisited some of our earliest projects. Planning for this 350-acre, 1,500-unit development began in the mid-90s. It was Flagstaff’s largest subdivision and remains one of its most popular. The project began with a Master Mixed Development Plan, and we assisted the developer with the rezoning process. Our work also included modeling water and wastewater impacts on the City’s system, stormwater management and regional detention. We then completed the design of the individual phases of the project, providing surveying and engineering services to obtain permits, and prepare construction documents.
For this year’s staff photo we gathered at the south entrance to Ponderosa Trails - one of the firm’s first projects.
Breaking Ground!

Construction is underway on the Bluff’s - a senior living community, on Butler Avenue in Flagstaff. Woodson provided the surveying and civil engineering for this 210,572-sf facility which will include 120 independent living and 66 assisted living units, and 18 memory care apartments.
