Preschool Celebrates Chanukah

At the Preschool celebration for Chanukah, the students learned about the candles that are lit each night for 8 nights. It's called a menorah. They also learned about a game played with a spinning top, called a dreidel. But the best part of their celebration was eating the delicious potato latkes with apple sauce. Read More
It's Cap Day in Preschool

After learning the letter C and it's sound, the Preschoolers wore caps to school. Each student individually styled their own cap, representing items that begin with the letter C.

Pre-Kindergarten A Celebrates Chanukah

The Pre-Kindergarten A students learned about the holiday of Chanukah. They enjoyed hearing Chanukah stories, singing Chanukah songs, and learned that the holiday is celebrated by eating potato pancakes (latkes). They also enjoyed eating another symbol of Chanukah ... chocolate coins!
Pre-Kindergarten B Celebrates
Chanukah
Pre-Kindergarten B learned about the history of Chanukah. They read the story T'was the Night Before Hanukkah which taught them about the Maccabees and the oil miracle. The students discussed why the holiday is celebrated with fried foods and then enjoyed some jelly doughnuts, also known as sufganiyot!

Kindergarten Celebrates Chanukah

The Kindergarten children took a Magic Carpet Ride using their imagination to see how Chanukah is celebrated in Israel and the United States! They saw beautifully lit Menorahs, gifts for every night of Chanukah, children playing the dreidel game, and a gathering of families enjoying potato latkes. The children wrote all about their experience in their Passports and then drew their illustrations. Read More
Preschool - Grade 1 Holiday Sing

On December 12th, the CHP Community was treated to performances by students in Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade as they sang a variety of holiday songs, including songs in Spanish.

Hot Chocolate Helps Develop Good Writing Skills

First grade students made ho t chocolate as part of a lesson to learn the importance of sequencing in writing. To introduce the concept, they created introductory winter sequencing mats, using only pictures, Then they launched into the fun of making their own cups of hot chocolate and writing their own recipes for a delicious cup of hot cocoa. This project allows beginning writers at all skill levels to be successful and take pride in their work. Read More
Second Graders Help Children in Need

During their December class party, second graders considered the needs of others and crafted mitten ornaments with special messages for children undergoing care at the Children's Hospital at St. Peter's University Hospital. Our class parents provided hot chocolate and other treats to top off a wonderful afternoon !

Second Grade Student Performs at Carnegie Hall

Amber Davis, a second grade student at Cedar Hill Preparatory School, performed at a Carnegie Hall recital on November 17th. Amber received third prize for her solo piano devotee and the Emmett Award for being the youngest bright talent. Congratulations Amber!  Read More
Grade 2 Book Reports Rock!

Second graders completed their first book report of the year. The assignment was to select a fiction book and create a project related to the book. The reports were very creative and informative. Some students chose to go digital, using PowerPoint or Google Slides. Others made posters, Lego scenes, book covers, and even a handmade quilt to portray the story elements. Read More
Second Grade Addition Fact Face-Off

Second graders participated in an Addition Fact Face-Off to bolster their math fact fluency. Grouped by House, the students engaged in a spirited competition to earn points for their respective Houses.
Grade 3 Pajama Day

Third graders had a wonderful pajama day. They watched Polar Express and enjoyed hot chocolate, popcorn, fruits and munchkins! They sang holiday songs and danced their way to the end of the last school day of the year 2018. Read More
Grade 3 D.E.A.R. Program

On Friday December 7th the 3rd graders participated in our second round of D.E.A.R., Drop Everything and Read program. We were joined by Pranavi’s mom who brought us delicious donuts to enjoy with our books! We can’t wait until January for the next one! Read More
Grade 3 Mystery Reader

Third Grade welcomed yet another Mystery Reader. The students were very excited because this was at the end of the busy trimester week. Mr. Tito Shirley, Zahra's dad, read us the beautiful book Islandborn by Junot Diaz.
Grade 4 Sends Holiday Wishers to Our Veterans!

Thank you to Reina Fontaine and her family for inspiring Grade 4 to reach out to our veterans with warm holiday wishes. Each year, this has become a Grade 4 tradition as so many of our parents work for companies who coordinate efforts to remembers our veterans, those who are actively deployed as well as those recuperating in health facilities. Grades 2 - 4 Holiday Sing

O n December 13th at 6 pm, students in Grades 2 through 4 performed their  Holiday Sing  with a repertoire of songs in English French, and Spanish. This year we were treated to instrumental accompaniments as our 2nd Graders performed a song on the ukulele along with our 3rd & 4th Graders on their recorders.

Grade 4 Holiday Celebration

During December, as the 4 th graders shared their various holiday traditions with one another, a common theme appeared among all the traditions discussed…COOKIES! And so… this served as the basis for the Grade 4 Holiday Celebration on December 13 th …. a Cookie Decorating Party!

Grade 7 D.E.A.R. Program

Aseal Eltayeb and her mother, Rabab Ahmed, read with Mrs. Nemiroff's 7A Homeroom during D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) on December 7. Ms. Ahmed read  Unwind  by Neal Schusterman and Aseal read  UnWholly , which is the sequel to  Unwind . Parents are welcome to Drop Everything and Read with their children during CHP's D.E.A.R. Grades 5 - 8 Holiday Sing

On Thursday December 13th, Grades 5 through 8 had their annual holiday sing. Their repertoire included a variety of holiday songs sung in English, French, Spanish...and Sign Language. They truly enjoyed kicking off the holiday season with their performance!

Winter Holiday Showcase
On December 12th, the Lower Grades' performance was followed by our first CHP Winter Holiday Showcase. This provided an opportunity to showcase some of our amazing students' talents. Among the many presentations were singing, dancing, magic acts, comedy... and even how to solve the Rubik"s Cube. It was a great night for all!

Holiday Luncheon
In December, right before Winter Break, CHP teachers and staff came together for a Holiday Luncheon! It was a lovely event - full of holiday cheer, teacher appreciation, and a fun gift-giving game called "White Elephant".

Holiday Bazaar
Thank you to the CHP Community for the great turn out on December 7 for the Holiday Bazaar. A big SHOUT OUT and thank you to all of our vendors for taking the time from your busy schedules to participate. We look forward to seeing you in the near future.  

Girls Basketball Team Won Their First Game of the Season!

The CHP Girls Basketball Team won a hard fought game against Stuart Country Day School with a final score of 12 - 10. The girls showed lots of hustle and heart throughout the game. Go Wildcats!
Boys Basketball Team Won Against the Wardlaw-Hartridge B School

On Wednesday December 5th, the CHP Boys basketball team played against the Wardlaw-Hartridge B School team. The CHP Boys Basketball team played exceptionally well, with a 37 - 2 victory. Congratulations on your win! Go Wildcats! Read More

December Staff Birthdays
December is always a festive month of the year. CHP celebrated quite a few staff birthdays this month. Ms. Nan, Ms. Boyce, Ms. Trusiani, Ms. Pattani and Ms. Nunez celebrated their birthdays as the third grade (the CHP Birthday Emissaries) sang to each of them on their special day and presented them with a card signed by the entire CHP staff.
