Our calendar has a new look. To better support a mobile-first design, we’ve moved away from the traditional calendar view. Instead, events are listed with sortable filters, making it easier to find events by department and/or specialty-specific offerings. We are continuing to improve the features within the calendar to better support our members' needs.
Reminder: All residents must register individually for GME Alliance events using their CME Tracker account (created during orientation). This helps us ensure accurate attendance and event follow-up.
The Scholarly Activity Unit hosterd a Quality Improvement Essentials Bootcamp on Friday November 21 at the Macomb University Center. The bootcamp provided residents and faculty with a focused, hands-on introduction to core QI principles and practical improvement methods. Through interactive workshops, participants learned how to identify system-level problems, develop measurable aims, analyze processes, and apply tools such as root cause analysis, process mapping, and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles. The bootcamp emphasized teamwork, data-driven decision-making, and creating sustainable change within clinical environments. By the end of the program, attendees were equipped with the skills and confidence to initiate and lead QI projects that enhance patient care, safety, and workflow efficiency across their departments.

NOVEMBER CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION
Advanced Muscle Energy with Clinical Correlation | November 7–11, 2025
MSUCOM’s Continuing Medical Education program successfully hosted the Advanced Muscle Energy with Clinical Correlation course November 7–11, 2025. Led by Carl Steele, DO, MS, PT, and Lisa Chase, PT, CFMM, OMPT, this five-day training gave learners the chance to sharpen their skills across the spine, ribs, pelvis, and extremities. NOVEMBER RESIDENT EDUCATION
Advanced Ultrasound Procedures Course
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the Michigan State University GME Alliance hosted an Advanced Ultrasound Procedures course at the MSU Macomb University Center in Clinton Township, MI. The session was led by Dr. Andrew Butki, a respected faculty member from MSU’s Emergency Medicine program.
This advanced training combined alternating lecture and hands-on skills practice, allowing participants to deepen their proficiency in critical ultrasound-guided techniques used in emergency care. The interactive structure encouraged discussion, peer learning, and real-time feedback from Dr. Butki, enhancing both clinical confidence and procedural accuracy.
The course supports the ongoing mission of MSU GME Alliance to provide innovative, high-impact educational experiences that strengthen physician readiness and improve patient outcomes across Michigan’s healthcare systems.
Advanced Cardiac Anatomy Dissection
Our cardiovascular fellows recently participated in an advanced cardiac anatomy dissection session designed to reinforce structural–functional correlations essential to clinical practice. Under the guidance of GME Alliance participating faculty, fellows examined gross cardiac anatomy and anatomic variations relevant to imaging and interventional procedures.
The hands-on format allowed fellows to integrate anatomic findings with clinical decision-making, procedural planning, and pathophysiologic concepts. The session sparked high-level discussion, collaborative learning, and reflection on how anatomic nuances influence diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
Thank you to all faculty, fellows, and our partners with ZOLL who contributed to this successful educational experience.
FM Ultrasound Event
Our Family Medicine residents recently participated in a hands-on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) session dedicated to musculoskeletal and joint evaluation. Led by faculty and fellows with advanced ultrasound expertise, the workshop emphasized sonographic assessment of common joint complaints, anatomy, and pathology. Residents practiced acquiring and interpreting ultrasound images of major joints, integrating anatomy, clinical context, and real-time diagnostic reasoning. The session also highlighted ultrasound-guided procedural techniques, like venipuncture and joint aspiration.
