We envision people caring for their local watersheds, resulting in clean, healthy lakes, rivers, and creeks that will support humans and wildlife for years to come.
Where does your bait come from?
It is important to check your angling bait for invasive species, even if it was purchased from a store and is in a sealed container. Just this past summer, an invasive mussel was found in a tub of preserved emerald shiners purchased in Saskatchewan. Invasive species that are introduced into a waterbody can create an infestation or introduce diseases that can harm native fish.

Letter from the Executive Director: 2022 in Review
The word “change” best describes 2022 for the Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds. This biggest change has been the amalgamation of the 9 watershed stewardship groups under SAW and the new formation of 5 watershed districts to provide watershed programming and education to the entire province of Saskatchewan. I encourage you to visit our website, www.saskwatersheds.ca, to find out more about our organization and what we have to offer your community.
Our largest program currently in Saskatchewan is the Prairie Watersheds Climate Program. It is in partnership with the Manitoba Association of Watersheds. The program focuses on assisting agricultural producers in adopting nitrogen management, cover cropping and rotational grazing beneficial management practices on the landscape through funding initiatives. Program information is available on the SAW website.
This past month we launched the Caring for our Watersheds Program in partnership with Nutrien. This is an educational program that targets grade 7-12 students who are passionate about improving their watershed by implementing an idea they have. Stephanie Huel is our educational coordinator managing this program. I encourage you to reach out to her if your school or child is interested in participating in the program.
On behalf of the SAW Board of Directors and staff, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We look forward to working with you into the future.
All the Best in 2023!
