The Root Cause of Winter Damage

Why do I need to water my trees? Well, just like our house plants, they need your loving care too and it's cold outside. Watering isn't just a spring and summer job.

The fluctuation in temperature and extremely low soil moisture can cause trees to sustain damage if they aren’t properly cared for. We can't count on snowfall to get the job done. As many of our customers know it takes 12 inches of snow to equal just one inch of water. This definitely isn't enough to quench a tree's thirst. A consistent watering routine throughout the winter months will promote fibrous roots and boost the health of your trees.

Your trees may not show outward signs of suffering right away. Without supplemental water, the root system of your trees and shrubs will become damaged. Signs of damage may not appear until late summer. Set up a watering routine now. Our experienced arbor experts can help you implement a watering plan that suits the unique needs of your trees. The first step is to schedule your complimentary property inspection. Help your plants survive and thrive this winter!

SUPPLEMENTAL WATERING FACTS

FOR TREES

💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧

💧As of December 1st, it has been 223 days without measurable snow. This record hasn't happened since the 1880's.

💧Water trees, shrubs, lawns, and perennials during prolonged dry fall and winter periods to prevent root damage that affects the health of the entire plant.

💧 Water only when air and soil temperatures are above 40 degrees fahrenheit with no snow cover.

💧 Established large trees have a root spread equal to or greater than the height of the tree. Apply water to the most critical part of the root zone within the dripline.

💧 If you have a live Christmas tree, water it daily. A 6-foot Christmas tree requires at least one gallon of water each day to stay fresh.

Concerned about a possible mite infestation? Schedule your free property assessment here.

Oh my, I have mites!

Denver has been dry and warm, which is what mites need to populate and thrive. These pests are extremely small but cause a large amount of unsightly damage to our turf. During the winter season it can be hard to identify the damage because of snow coverage. However, December is when we need to treat the growing population. We will follow up with two more applications to gain control. End the battle with your lawn and spend time doing what you enjoy by signing up for our lawn care package. We have the experience needed to get the results desired.
