Middle School Rec/Enrichment

Youth N.O.W. offers enrichment classes to our youth that will help them with their education, health, and basic life skills. We have an amazing Recreational Coordinator, Coach Bobo, who engages our youth in a multitude of sports and team building activities. Aside from a good ‘ol game of dodgeball (which our students LOVE) they also have a blast participating in team building games. It’s a fun way for them to get to know each other, build trust, and learn how to work together to accomplish a goal. At Youth N.O.W., we want our students to learn the importance and benefits of collaborating with one another, all the while having fun building strong friendships. This past month, Jennifer from the County of Health, has been teaching our students about new foods, ingredients, and showing them how to make simple but yummy recipes! Art is another enrichment class our students are always excited for. A special shout-out to Monte Vista Christian National Honor Society students for not only helping our students with their homework but also leading them in weekly art projects. Our students recently made an altar for Pajaro Valley Arts Council, “Mi Casa es Tu Casa” art exhibit. Each student made a piñata that symbolized something important in their lives. The stories behind those piñata’s were beautiful and very meaningful, it amazed us to see how open our students were about sharing their family values and what is important to them. “I’ve seen how talented our students are. They love [art] and continue pushing forward with their amazing artwork. They’re always asking us if we can put it on our wall, that shows me how proud they are of their work. We are too! Soon we will have our center filled with all the cool artwork made from them!” - Melina, Middle School Program Assistant

She also never fails to greet staff members on her way in, as well as on her way out! When a fellow classmate is having trouble solving a homework problem, she always makes herself available to explain how she found the solution. Christina makes sure to use the time she has in program wisely and will communicate what resources she needs from our staff in order to be successful. Congratulations Christina!
