Helping Hands Christmas

In recent years, Mahomet Helping Hands (MHH) has asked our congregation and the other sponsoring organizations in our community to donate $25 gift cards for children of a particular age. This year MHH wants to continue to remember the children, but also to spread a little Christmas cheer to the adults who depend on the Helping Hands Food Pantry each month.  Therefore, MHH has asked each of us to consider donating one or more $10 gift cards with the hope that all of the approximately 200 monthly recipients (adults and children) will receive a nice gift.

On Sunday, November 30th, a large number of ornament tags will be on a tree in the Narthex. Please take one or more as a reminder to purchase a gift card of your choice and return it to the church by Sunday, December 14th, at the latest. Your thoughtfulness will be greatly appreciated!!!

Committee Reports

Finance Committee

October:

Pledged                                 $27,000

Non-Pledged                         $ 4,000

Unrestricted Income          $31,000

Operating Expenses            $28,000

Net Operating                  $3,000 gain

There were a $4,000 expense for windows and a $750 expense for sprinkler pipe repairs paid during the month. These transactions were funded from the restricted Building Repairs fund ($4,295) and Memorial funds ($1,120 Alma Pugh gifts). Utility expenses were over budget once again as we paid 2 months during October. Year to date unrestricted revenue through the end of October was about $302,000 ($249K pledged and $53K non-pledged) versus unrestricted expenses of $305,000. The building insurance cost continues to be way under budget due to refunds from the cancelled 2024 policies, but the other building maintenance accounts are exceeding budget. In restricted funds there remains about $30,460 in the building repair fund. $30K of this remaining balance is a grant restricted for the fire suppression system. MUMC received $10,022 of Faithful Foundations donations as the congregation continued to respond to the capital campaign. In just 3 months the Faithful Foundations gifts total $78,178 thanks to the strong response from our congregation!

Education Committee

The Education Committee met in November. In reviewing the Something On Sunday program, we were pleased to note that the program grew over the course of six weeks, ending with a very large and popular group. As a committee, we have decided to repeat the program February 1st through March 8th. We debated what programs to offer to the children and are looking closely at a Scouting program. We have decided to table the discussion and make a final decision at our next meeting in January, when we have more information.

Missions Committee

Hello from the Missions Team! Thank you to everyone who donated to the College Care Packages and to those that wrote the college students letters. We packed them on November 9th, and they will be mailed out before Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to our December Advent calendar mission and Bags of Joy. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you from the Missions Team!!!
