In 2017, as FOG proudly enters its 30th year of supporting and promoting organic and sustainable agriculture, we are excited to announce the offering of a statewide organic Florida Farmer Gathering! We are in the planning stages now and would love to hear from you!

The Englewood Farmers Market celebrated Eat Local Week with “ Food As Medicine!"

Guest speakers included representatives from the Sarasota County health department and All Faith’s Food Bank. The event also included a cooking demonstration with Dr. Christina Babiak, a portable earth bucket garden demonstration provided by Dr. Kluson from the IFAS Sarasota County Extension and participation from Englewood Elementary School second graders. 

The Englewood Farmers Market is open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. October through May
in 300 Block of Historic W. Dearborn St.

Beet Pate Recipe from Dr. Cristina Babiak

In food processor put 3-4 chopped raw washed beets with 1/4 cup olive oil and pulverize smooth.
Add 1/2-1 cup of shelled ground pecans, walnuts, or sunflower seeds, 2- 3 cloves garlic, 1 tsp sea salt, 1 tsp of dry herbs, 1 whole lemon squeezed plus zest. Process until creamy paste. Use this on salad, roasted vegetables or as dip with chopped jicama chips or crackers. Refrigerate.

Stewardship Program 

The  National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) has published updated resources designed to support farmers considering an application to the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).

NSAC was instrumental in developing CSP, the nation’s largest working lands conservation program, which supports farmers and ranchers in their efforts to actively manage and expand conservation activities on their agricultural lands.
Farmers Market Coalition extended SNAP EBT Equipment Program  
The Farmers Market Coalition has extended their free SNAP EBT Equipment Program through May 2017!

For participants in the program, FMC will cover the costs of purchasing or renting SNAP EBT equipment and services (set-up costs, monthly service fees) for up to three years.

Register NOW for the 2017 Organic Agriculture Research Symposium

The Organic Agriculture Research Symposium (OFRF) will take place January 25-26, 2017 immediately preceding the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group Conference (SAWG).

The symposium will feature researchers from all disciplines related to organic farming and food systems, and other systems of sustainable agriculture that employ techniques compatible with organic standards. The intent of the symposium is to provide current information to farmers, ranchers, extensionists, educators, agricultural professionals and others intererested in organic agriculture. OFRF is offering a limited number of scholarships as well!
