Community Colleges to Spotlight Healthcare Careers in PA CareerLink Showcase | |
People interested in a career in healthcare will have an opportunity to learn about hot jobs in the area, training programs, and funding possibilities at the Healthcare Career Pathways Showcase at PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley on Monday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley is located at 555 Union Blvd. in Allentown.
In partnership with PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley, LCCC and Northampton Community College (NCC) will showcase training opportunities leading to a career in healthcare, including noncredit, short-term certificate programs, as well as degree programs. Featured will be programs in nurse aide, licensed practical nurse (LPN), registered nurse (RN), medical billing and coding, healthcare office coordinator, phlebotomy, medical assistant and emergency medical technician.
Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with representatives from LCCC and NCC about financial aid, admissions and career services, and visit with faculty in the various programs about program requirements and job opportunities. Training funds may also be available for qualified participants through PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley.
Employers will be on site to highlight their open positions and talk with attendees. Job seekers, participants in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), college students, community partners and Lehigh Valley residents who are interested in learning about healthcare career pathways and training opportunities are encouraged to attend.

LCCC and DeSales Agreement Streamlines Transfer Pathway | |
An agreement between LCCC and DeSales University will benefit LCCC graduates who are working toward their bachelor’s degree, guaranteeing eligible graduates admission to the university.
Through this new agreement, LCCC graduates who earn an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) are guaranteed admission at DeSales. In addition, the DeSales general education requirements will be satisfied through the LCCC degree program, with a few class exceptions.
Students with the intent to transfer to DeSales can take one tuition-free course toward their bachelor’s degree during their completion of the LCCC associate degree. Also, students with a grade point average of 2.75 or above will receive a total financial aid package, inclusive of any scholarships, of at least 50% off DeSales tuition.

LCCC Holds Information Sessions for Students with Disabilities | |
Students with disabilities interested in how to have a successful college experience and to master skills in transition, academic and/or career areas are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn how LCCC's SEED program can assist.
Two information sessions are available for students and families to learn more.

The Success, Engagement, Education, Determination (SEED) program helps college students with disabilities get the training they need to get ahead in life by developing soft and/or technical skills, socialization, and independent living skills needed for postsecondary educational and vocational success.
In partnership with the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living (LVCIL), LCCC SEED offers a flexible and fully integrated support program providing coaching, educational support, work experiences and comprehensive follow along services through one of three support tracks. In the end, students can earn any number of certificates or degrees LCCC offers ,including the new Cross Institutional Studies (XISC) workforce certificate or 32 credit certificate.
The application deadline to enroll in SEED for the fall 2025 semester is March 21, 2025. If interested, visit the website and complete an application.

Faculty Coaches Present at NISOD |
Professor Jennifer Myskowski, Dr. Betsy Swope, and Dr. Melanie A. Turrano presented "Support Through Collaboration: Creating a Faculty Coaching Program to Support Teaching and Learning" at the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) on Oct.17. At a well-attended virtual session, the three professors spotlighted the creation and implementation of a community college Faculty Coaching program designed to enhance teaching effectiveness while fostering a collaborative academic culture.
Their presentation described the initial steps in starting such a program, including marketing, securing stakeholder buy-in, and developing a new program that becomes embedded in an institution. Best practices for training and recruiting both coaches and coachees and evaluating the program's impact through data collection were highlighted.
NISOD is a consortium of community and technical colleges that helps faculty, staff and administrators support students.

Psi Beta Induction Ceremony Held |
LCCC students Carter Gotthard, Alyssa Lawson, Kaitlin Solt and Briana Shelhammer were inducted into Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community colleges, on Nov. 12.
The goal of the organization is to encourage the professional development and psychological literacy of students by promoting and recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service. Advisor to the group is Dr. Robin Musselman, professor of social sciences.

LCCC Learning Specialists Present at PA MASLOW Convening |
LCCC Learning Specialists Jess Joseph and Michael G. Spinks presented at the PA Department of Education's 2nd Annual PA MASLOW Statewide Collegiate Basic Needs Convening on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Harrisburg. Their session was entitled, "How to College: Assisting Adult Learners as They Navigate Higher Education."

The second annual event included a welcome by Nora McLaughlin, RN, BSN, LCCC alumna; hands-on workshops led by faculty, staff and students; and a lunch and resource fair.
