Ok, you caught us! We are already dreaming of the fun our youngest students will have this month in their Nursery Rhymes unit! Our little emergent and early readers are going to enjoy the rhyming lyrics and funny characters as they practice reading!

Older students will be growing new skills as they use the writing process to publish their writing and share with the class. They have a great model to follow in the writing of our current novel study author, Pam Munoz Ryan. Her writing helped us to imagine and understand the myriad emotions of the characters in her book, Esperanza Rising. We will continue to read and share as we see the lead character develop strength, patience and perseverance to meet the challenges she faces.

As our oldest students learn the key vocabulary, they will identify and create a variety of shapes, measuring angles and evaluating attributes of each. This unit is very hands-on and students are always excited to show what they can create. While we learn through teamwork, some students will be challenged to specific tasks according to their skill level. One student might be finding the area and perimeter of given shapes, while others write equations to find the measure of unknown angles. Each day starts with a challenge project followed by independent study at the level needed.

Younger students are also polishing geometry skills with attribute blocks, tangrams, geoboards and real life examples of 3-D shapes. Sorting, graphing, problem-solving and patterns all fit well into this geometry study and provide extension for students who need that. You could say that each student will be examining geometry from the angle that fits his/her own needs!

We will complete our Rocks and Minerals unit by finishing our rock cycle charts and growing our own crystals. Students have loved learning about the different kinds of rocks and examining samples of each under a magnifying glass, using a scratch test to determine hardness, and discovering how rocks and minerals are important to our everyday lives.

Students will have an opportunity to create timelines and flowcharts that will demonstrate their understanding as we take a trip back in time to see why laws are necessary and learn how laws are made in our country.

Our second reading will take us to boot camp with a group of kids who are searching for good rules to help them live successful lives. We are going to be able to see clear parallels between God's Word and the rules we will discover through our reading of this book. Students will also see the very clear connection between the Ten Commandments and the laws our Founding Fathers put in place for our country! We are so fortunate and thankful to live here!

What a whirlwind of music, dance & drama we are in the midst of as we prepare for our Christmas Recital and our Musical; “The Best Christmas Song Ever”!! We know you are enjoying hearing your child sing and dance “Sheep Dance” over, and over again!!!! We can hardly wait for you to see your child in performance!

This month has been amazing! Such a joy to watch each student exceed expectations of the Lords plan to achieve and believe in themselves!  The performance “The Best Christmas Song Ever” is right around the corner, so this has been our main focus in class.

Thanks to the discipline and talent of our passionate students, they were able to learn three completely new choreographies from scratch, where they have to coordinate voice, performance and movement!!! , in addition we were also continuing the practice of our fun tap number “Best Christmas Song Ever” and the “Sheep Dance”. A total of five choreographies, for five songs performed by themselves, this is simply extraordinary. Due to this, in a very short time their ability to memorize, body awareness, and focus in the classroom has improved enormously, as well as physical coordination between more than two activities at the same time.

In the next several classes before the musical, we will continue to improve, through practice and repetition, awareness and discipline. We will also learn how to do “cramp rolls” and “riffs”, basic Tap steps that together with all the others they already know, will create a beautiful rhythmic phrase to work on during the month of December.  It has been a pleasure to accompany our little artists in training during the process of such a beautiful show that is about to be presented. This is what everyday life at Boynton Beach School of the Performing Arts is about, unstoppable growing more and more, getting out of our comfort zone, learning without judging ourselves and above all, enjoying and having fun with what we are passionate about!

Our students are working hard in their piano classes. Our older students have learned how to play in the treble clef AND the bass clef!! Our younger students are learning geography on the piano in addition to notes, note values and rhythm. We are excited to share with you our progress in piano during our December 20th Piano Party!

In November, we focused on building airplane models and race cars! These activities not only engaged students’ creativity but also enhanced their fine motor skills. Building models requires concentration, problem-solving, and patience, making it a perfect activity to stimulate their minds!  During the month of December, students will be immersed in the spirit of the Christmas season! They will design and construct their very own gingerbread house, complete with colorful candies and icing. We cannot wait to see the smiles on students’ faces as they engage in these festive hands-on activities!

December is such an exciting time to make the shift from the Old Testament to New Testament in our studies! This first half of the year has given us time to become acquainted with many of the faithful leaders God chose to save the Israelite people. As we took note of their flaws, we were thankful to know that we do not need to strive for perfection to follow God. We need only to love and trust in Jesus, and believe that he can grow us into willing vessels pouring out His love and message. We found that while imperfect humans, these Old Testament leaders were able to do so much when they chose to trust God. We know when we turn our eyes upon Jesus, we turn our eyes away from sin, and that by God's power we can do great things, too!

Students listened as Noah was faithful to build an ark in a place where there was no water to sail it, because he knew God would do as he promised. We witnessed Moses' lack of confidence when God spoke to him from the burning bush and saw his leadership grow over time as he took the people toward the Promised Land. We saw how Joshua achieved greatness through the keeping of God's Law and his desire to serve God by saving his people. Our students loved Daniel's story, and how he went willingly to the lion's den knowing God would take care of him. We cheered for David's amazing example when he needed no armor or sword to confront Goliath. He knew the Lord was His shield and protector. As we examine and combine the strengths of all of our Old Testament heroes, we can create a beautiful mosaic of character traits that we will see again, but MULTIPLIED AND WITHOUT A SINGLE FLAW... in the perfect nature of Jesus Christ!

During December, we will meet more of the prophets and learn what each one foretold about the coming Savior. We will find that hundreds of years later, these prophecies were fulfilled in a stable in Bethlehem. We will find out that many of the Old Testament heroes are actually part of the family tree into which Jesus was born, and each day we will add characters to our Tree of Jesse as we follow the timeline God used to bring Jesus to us on Earth. We anticipate the stories we will read about Jesus and look forward to walking closer with Him in 2024!
