Dear Sue,

I hope your festive season is one of contentment, generosity and joy, whether you are sharing this period with loved ones or enjoying a period of solo reflection.

The Qigong classes take a pause on Tuesday 24th and Thursday 26th December, Christmas eve and Boxing Day. Otherwise they will be offered as usual.

The December solstice takes us into the darkest days of winter. A time for hibernating and inner growth, like seeds hidden in the earth. These are sending out threads of roots to nourish for the spring growth. This annual pause offers a time to delve inwards to tend to ourselves in preparation for the year ahead. Our final shared reflection of 2024 is on Thursday 19th December at The Mindfulness Practice session. Then I will be collating all the kind donations made by participants during this past year to send to The Abergavenny Food Bank.

Recently I have been revisiting The 8 Pieces of The Silk Brocade. This is a simple, powerful and internal form that was created to maintain the physical, emotional and mental health of warriors over a 1000 years ago. It’s practice often surprises on first encounter, the form eliminates any expectation of an SAS forces training! The Silk Brocade Form is subtle and profound, gentle and accessible. It can be done seated or standing and is an excellent vehicle for recovery from any debilitating trauma or condition. The postures offer healing for depression or any life-changing medical event as well as enabling us to calmly handle the challenges of daily living, The 8 pieces of The Silk Brocade is an example of moving medicine that is suitable for all. The practice contains eight separate postures (or pieces) that awaken differing energies and meridian pathways.

I will be teaching the Silk Brocade form over the weekend of January 18th and 19th. The eight movements help to redirect and protect us from negative or toxic energies that come our way enabling us to maintain peace of mind even in the face of negativity and stress.

In 2025 I will be leading a new Mindfulness Stress Reduction Training Course. There is a free taster session on Monday 27th January and the seven week course starts two weeks later on Monday February 10th, eight weeks in total. If you haven’t yet participated on a Mindfulness Training Course you have a life-changing treat in store! For those who wish a refresher I recommend you come along too. This will enable deeper insights into the skills offered. Register your interest here.

Gratitude to all who have participated in the regular Qigong and Tai Chi classes, the Holy Isle Qigong & Meditation Retreat Week and the weekend Qigong study days held over the past year. I have enjoyed being with you. I love your shared enthusiasm for these ancient skills that are so relevant in our contemporary world.

May you all have a wonderfully joyful Christmas.

Warmest wishes,

Sue

Brocade is a precious and strong from of fabric. It is valued for its endurance over centuries as well as its beauty. The 8 Pieces of The Silk Brocade Qigong Form references the resilience and delicate elegance of these intricately decorated materials. The energies woven into this simple form offer a remedial and strong structure to bring balance to body, mind and spirit.

“…thousands of illnesses vanish into dust.” –

Thursday Fortnightly Mindfulness Practice

All welcome to this free session: 6pm - 7pm GMT

  • Thursday 19th December
  • Thursday 2nd January

Our fortnightly Mindfulness Practice offers time together to refresh and deepen our peaceful practice. This hour together is for all to share a period of calm, replenishment and reflection. We will be rotating the lead in these sessions this coming year. Let me know if you wish to be a mindfulness guide.

These sessions are free, and any donation you choose to make (suggested £5+) are sent to a local charity, the Abergavenny Food Bank. Food poverty is prevalent everywhere and our donations help alleviate some of this sometimes invisible suffering. Last year together we donated £850 to this very worthwhile charity.
