Hall of Fame Runner Helen Klein Turns 100; Honored by City Council

Longtime Rancho Cordova resident, inspirational athlete and great-great grandmother Helen Klein was recognized by the City Council after reaching the 100 year milestone. Klein holds 75 world and national records for running, has run 90 marathons and was inducted into the Rancho Cordova Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Watch the video

City-Funded Scholarships Available for Aspiring Medical Professionals

WellSpace Institute is now accepting applications for its next training program for medical professionals that begins in February 2023. With support from the city’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, all program costs will be covered for a limited number of Rancho Cordova residents. Learn more

Youth @ City Council Leadership Program Recruiting for 2023

The Youth @ City Council program starts its 2023 season next month, with applications due December 14. The program is a weekly leadership and civic engagement program funded by the city's Community Enhancement & Investment Fund. Participants (aged 13-18) meet weekly through May and upon completion receive a $100 stipend. Apply here

City Seeking Feedback for Improvements on Chase Drive

Bear Hollow Fencing & Cordova School Zone Projects Completed

Two completed projects will enhance public safety within city limits: Secured post and cable fencing was installed around Bear Hollow Basin, with wrought iron fencing placed around the pumping station. High-visibility crosswalks and rapid-flashing beacons were installed at six Rancho Cordova elementary schools. Learn more

City Awarded Grant to Bolster Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

The City of Rancho Cordova received a $36,900 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety to fund programs emphasizing bicycle and pedestrian safety. The grant will support community workshops stressing bike safety and maintenance, education for safety equipment, and helmet fitting and distribution to those in need. Learn more

Holiday Trees and Leaf Pickup

For up to three weeks after Christmas Day, residents can leave fresh-cut holiday trees at curbside for free pickup. All ornaments/decor must be removed, and no artificial trees will be accepted. Extra leaves will also be collected at no additional cost through January. Simply fill up to four 30-gallon bags and place next to your full green organics waste cart. Learn more

Plan Ahead this Holiday Season: Be Safe and Drive Sober

The Rancho Cordova Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate safely and have a holiday game plan that includes designating a sober driver. Drunk driving is more prevalent during the holiday season, and DUI-related deaths in December typically spike nationwide. RCPD will have additional officers on patrol this month and a new state grant will fund additional DUI patrols and checkpoints. Learn more
