It is always an honor when amazing organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States reach out to us to give us a helping hand.
VFW Auxiliary Post #8919 was founded in 1961. A few years later, the Auxiliary was formed to help veterans in our community. Debbie Christensen with the VFW Auxiliary, took the lead in organizing this holiday drive. Since October, the group collected items for our shelter residents. Ms. Christensen shared, "Because of the shutdown, we tried to come up with creative things we could do. I reached out to my commander several months ago, and he liked the idea. The more we talked about it, the more we thought it was a good project because we are all animal lovers, and the majority of us have rescues. One of our families adopted a couple of dogs from the Humane Society and I also adopted one of my own from you all, so you know it was just right." In speaking with Ms. Christensen, you could hear how close their group is and how much they love their furry companions.
We are so grateful to the members of VFW Auxiliary of Post #8919 for everything you have done for our country, and for providing food, toys, and supplies for all of our animals still waiting for their forever home.
