Dear Music Lovers!

I wanted to share a few experiences I had over Thanksgiving that reaffirmed my belief in the universal power of music to communicate and create bridges between people and cultures.

Jackie and I went to Vietnam to perform in Ho Chi Minh City on a trip facilitated by our dear Orcas friend and former OICMF Board member Rolf Eriksen. We performed at the Park Hyatt Saigon in a week of cultural events that included artists, florists, perfumiers and Michelin-starred chefs!

Rolf arranged for us to visit the Erato School of Music where we gave master classes for young Vietnamese musicians.
With Rolf Eriksen and the Erato School’s music director, Mr. Pham Hai Long.
We eventually made our way to Siem Riep, Cambodia, to experience the grandeur of Angkor Wat.
On the way to visiting the temple of Banteay Samre, we saw a group of Cambodian musicians, all land-mine victims, performing. I had my violin with me and asked if I could join in. I found myself improvising in traditional Khmer harmonies, after which I played a little JS Bach. Music is truly a universal language - smiles, gestures and music - no phrase book needed! This spontaneous experience was very moving.

Happy Holidays from a stunning corner of the world!

Meet Leaves of Gold Artist
Artem Kuznetsov

We can't wait to meet and hear another of Jackie's star students, Artem Kuznetsov, at this year's Leaves of Gold concert on Thursday, December 13th at 5:30 p.m. at Rosario Resort.
He may be a student, but Artem already has quite a career going. He has amassed an impressive number of competition wins - first prizes at  the Ivanovka International Piano Competition, the International Music Fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, and the Naftzger Young Artist Competition and the Seattle International Piano Competition, as well as top prizes at the San Jose International Piano Competition, the Crescendo Music Awards Competition, the Wideman International Piano Competition, the San Antonio Young Artist Competition and the Dallas International Piano Competition.
He has played as a soloist and chamber performer across Europe, Russia and the United States, including festivals such as the International Rachmaninoff Music Festival in Ivanovka, Russia; the V Storonu Vyborga festival in Saint Petersburg, Russia; and the Bachaton Festival in Kansas City. He has performed in venues including Muziekcentrum Enschede, The Netherlands; Schloss Ettlingen, Asamsaal, Germany; Associazione Giosuè Carducci – Como, Italy; Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts, Kansas City; The Trianon Theatre, San Jose; Kennedy Center, Washington DC; and in Benaroya Hall, Seattle. And soon, Rosario Resort, where his Nutcracker Suite and Petrouchka will leave you breathless. There are still a few tickets left; c all or write Linda at (360) 376-6636 or l [email protected]
