Happy Holidays from DERT!

The DERT Board & staff celebrated a lively and impactful year at our December Board Meeting turned Holiday Party. We reflected on where we've been, what we've accomplished, and where we're headed as an organization. We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to you all for joining us at our many events this last year, including walking tours, workshops, fundraisers, conferences, and the Festival of the Steh-Chass. Wow! What a joy it has been to grow our partnerships & relationships, work toward a truly sustainable future in the Deschutes Estuary, and to make so many new friends along the way. Cheers to you all and happy holidays!

Community Envisioned Deschutes Estuary

~ Winter Workshop Series ~

We are excited to kick-off 2025 with a 7-part winter workshop series, Community Envisioned Deschutes Estuary (CEDE). The CEDE program will bring our community together to envision our return to being the home of the Deschutes Estuary. We will bring in partners and stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines and sectors to strategize around sustainable development, education, pollution, stewardship, recreation, cultural use, and more. Each workshop will be facilitated by members of DERT and be graced by guest speakers and panelists from diverse disciplines. Community members will participate in facilitated discussions to collaboratively build a shared vision of the community’s role in a restored Deschutes Estuary. Help us answer the question, how can we prepare to become an estuary city?

Beginning January 14, workshops will be held every other Tuesday evening, from 6:30-8:30pm at the Olympia Center (see dates below). Refreshments will be provided. We invite you to join us for the whole series, but you are welcome to join for the topics that interest you most. We will be joined by a graphic notetaker, and a final artistic rendering of our shared vision will be painted and put on display for Spring Arts Walk. In this final workshop of the series, we will quite literally take our findings to the streets and share with the broader Deschutes Estuary community. Please look out for announcements with reminders & more info for each workshop date. We can't wait to see you there!

Support for Deschutes Restoration and Community Engagement was provided by the Puget Sound Stewardship and Mitigation Fund, a grantmaking fund enabled by Waste Action Project and other Clean Water Act advocates’ program to protect the health of Puget Sound and its residents by enforcing federal water quality laws against serious violators. The Fund’s goal is to mitigate past pollution runoff by supporting community-based efforts to protect or improve the water quality of Puget Sound. The Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment administers the Fund to enable community-based watershed stewardship in close nexus with the specifics of the enabling settlements.
