December 31, 2016

Increasingly, it seems that the New Year brings changes. We welcome several new families and teachers to the Stanwich School community. Dr. Dana McNamee joins the science department (replacing Jennifer Corcoran) and Joan Garcia joins the language department (replacing Nina Nacher). In addition, Craig Colavito will not be returning to teach Upper School math next month, and his classes will be covered by other members of the department.
We are sad as well to say goodbye to Patty Foster who is pursuing other opportunities in the corporate field.  We wish Mrs. Corcoran, Mrs. Nacher, Mrs. Foster, and Mr. Colavito well as they take the next step in their professional lives.

We are pleased to welcome as mid-year students Miles Recchia, Martin Robredo, Amelie Curry, Dominic Curry, Carolina Oxenstierna and Stephanie Guan.

Notable among improvements underway for the New Year, we will roll out our new marketing materials and website. Examples of the new branding and messaging have been received positively by the faculty and the PA Board.

Congratulations to John Russell, Madeline Azrak and Harrison Azrak for auditioning and successfully making it into the Western Regional Middle School Concert Band.  They will represent Stanwich at the Connecticut Music Educators Association Festival in January.

The faculty and staff greatly appreciate this year's twelve days of Christmas orchestrated by the Parent Association and Faculty Appreciation Chair Marli Meir. Trivia Night late last month was once again a great success, mixing parents and teacher in challenging Stanwich style.

As a public service, please note on your calendars the American Red Cross's blood drive on February 6 between 11:15am-5:00pm at Greenwich town Hall. We are confident that Stanwich will be well represented in their "Biggest Heart in Greenwich" competition.  Please mention that you are representing Stanwich when checking in to participate.

We hope as always that Stanwich is the first philanthropic priority for our families. Year's end is always a very busy time for the Advancement Office receiving Annual Fund contributions to be accounted in this calendar year. If you have not already given and wish to have your gift attributed to 2016, donate online, or please put a check in the mail as soon as possible dated this month.

Please join us for a screening of the documentary SCREENAGERS - Growing Up in the Digital Age on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 7:00pm. This event is open to the Stanwich parent community as well as friends.

Please find below the projected academic calendar for parent planning purposes. As always we have done our best in trying to coordinate calendars with other local schools attended by siblings and provide the appropriate number of school days necessary to deliver our curriculum successfully.  Please let me know at your earliest opportunity if you see any problematic oversights.

With all best wishes for a joyful and successful 2017.

Sincerely,
Charles Sachs
