Feliz Navidad from the Corona-Norco Family YMCA!
What a year it is has been at the YMCA! As the year comes to a close and we all lean into the holidays, we as a Y, a team, a community focused organization, are sending you our love and warm wishes to you and your family.
Our hope for you this holiday season is that you laugh your heart out, fill your belly with delicious food, play ‘til you are out of breath and sleep the best sleep ever! Hug your mom, your dad, your kids and dog. Make those New Year resolutions without fear or hesitation and remind yourself that you are pretty amazing!
Thank you to all our community partners who have supported us throughout the year and to all our families for trusting us with your little ones. We are proud to be your YMCA and love being a part of your community family.
Let’s celebrate all the good of 2021, and look with hope and love to 2022.

'Tis the Season... to Make a Charitable Donation
This is a great year and month to make donations - here's why...
According to the Nonprofit Finance Fund, many nonprofits are struggling under increased demand for services and decreased support (due to canceled fundraising events and reduced donations). If you’ve remained financially stable, or if charitable giving is important to you, your year-end donations could be critical to a number of struggling nonprofits.
Reasons to Make Year-End Charitable Donations
Good reasons to give at year’s end include the following, ranging from financial advantages to personal satisfaction.
1) Take Advantage of Employer Matching
2) Generate Tax Deductions
3) Give to Gift
4) Offset IRA Taxes

Youth & Government Model Legislature & (MLC) continues to be the state’s premier youth Leadership and civic engagement program.
The MLC creates a six-month learn-by-doing experience that teaches the values of democracy by bringing together a cross-section of high school students from across the state of California.
Recently, our Youth and Government students submitted a Bill to the California Legislature. The Bill, titled Biodegradable Environmentally World (B.E.W.), strives to address the importance of using less plastic and converting to using biodegradable products. The Bill advocates the harm plastics do to our environment, creation of new biodegradable products, and company enforcement to comply.
We are very proud of our Y&G students and the work they put in together to submit this comprehensive Bill.

TAKE ACTION TO
IMPROVE YOUR
HEART HEALTH
YMCA’S BLOOD PRESSURE SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM
High Blood Pressure, “The Silent Killer” is preventable. 80 Million adults have it, yet less than half have it under control. Heart disease and stroke are two of the leading causes of death in the United States.
|
|
Measure your blood pressure regularly to help your health care team diagnose any health problems early. You and your health care team can take steps to control your blood pressure if it is too high. Visit cdc.gov for more information on how often to measure your blood pressure and to print a Blood Pressure Log like the one above.

Basketball
Our end of basketball season celebration included celebrating players in all divisions by awarding them with medals, a YMCA Backpack and YMCA water bottles. The volunteer coaches were awarded a Thank you plaque. Players, coaches and families enjoyed a wonderful feast after the award ceremony.
Registration for the next Basketball season is now open, and ends January 7th. Call 951-736-1416 to register.

Employee Spotlight - Ryan Serna
|
|
Hi everyone, my name is Ryan Serna. I have always called the LA area home. I attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, and graduated from Cal State Northridge with a degree in business marketing.
Growing up, I was a Y kid at the Westside YMCA, now renamed the Collins and Katz YMCA. My passion for the Y comes from the memories I have at Camp Whittle, the friends I made there, and the counselors and directors who I so dearly looked up to. I am now fortunate enough to be able to be one of those directors, and strive to be the type of role model that the youth in our community can look up to.
My previous Y experience was at the YMCA of the Foothills, where for about three years, I was a program director overseeing sports, youth, and teen programs. My favorite programs will always be resident camp and Youth and Government. I truly believe in the heart of the Y and the positive force the Y is in communities.
Outside of the Y, I love going to the movies and anything sports related. I will watch or play any and all different kinds of sports from basketball to volleyball to golf. I was married in 2020 to my beautiful wife Kirra, who I met through the Y! This past July, our baby boy Logan was born and we have been enjoying every moment of being first-time parents.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Corona-Norco Family YMCA and look forward to the impact we can make!

Teens Shopped for Christmas
Our Teens had a great time shopping at the Y Holiday Store. They selected gifts for loved ones then wrapped their presents beautifully. Afterward, the group enjoyed some cocoa and snacks. It was a heart-warming event because the teens were able to do something kind for someone they love for Christmas.
|
|
At City Park our children have been very busy getting ready for the holidays. They painted a gingerbread cookie and Christmas lights, made paper pine trees, a Christmas wreath, a wish list, made deer crafts, holidays ornaments. We had a Christmas party where they had fun breaking a Santa piñata and enjoyed a delicious lunch. They are ready for the holidays!!

Thank YOU for Investing in the Future 2022
It was a fantastic evening at Luna Modern Mexican Kitchen on December 8th, shared by many YMCA supporters. While raising funds for the YMCA children for 2022, we had the opportunity to come together in fellowship and celebration of the Y and each other. Thank you for your continued support. YOU are WHY we are the Y!
