This is a great opportunity to for students considering LACHSA music , and all of the LACHSA arts departments.
Meet our Interns!
With deep gratitude to the Los Angeles Department of Arts & Culture Internsip Program, we are excited to introduce you to our LA County Interns!
Matthew Hernandez: Programs Intern(pictured above)
Matthew is a passionate college student at Pasadena City College who was born and raised in the Boyle Heights community. He was introduced to music in his middle school years and continues to apply himself in the arts world by performing with a locally based Latin jazz and salsa band. As a student at Neighborhood Music School, he studied saxophone independently and developed his skills in our Jazz Ensemble for over 2 years. When looking back at what music taught him, he credits music for developing his discipline and determination to succeed. Also, he believes that music helped him create countless, significant relationships, in which he holds much sentimental value. During the Covid-19 crisis, he decided to apply for our program internship with hopes of assisting Neighborhood Music School in strengthening his community using art. He aspires to continue to help others realize their maximum potential through music and all other art forms.
Alan Ke: Archival Intern (pictured above)
Alan is a junior at Pomona College with a passion for everything music-related. Back at school, he’s an on-air DJ and Music Director for KSPC 88.7FM. His show, “like antennas,” plays everything from ambient drones to abrasive punk. When he’s not sorting stacks of CDs as NMS’s Archival Intern, he enjoys playing guitar and watching foreign cinema. Given the opportunity, he will always order the spiciest thing on the menu, anywhere.
Holiday Closures:
NMS will be closed December 21st-January 2nd in observance of the holidays that fall in December.
NMS will have an optional week of January 3rd-9th, in which the office will be closed, but instruction will be at the discretion of the teaching artist.
