My how time flies! 'Tis it the season to be jolly again! Whether you had a terrific year, or if it was one of the most challenging years of your life; whether you celebrate the holiday season or not, now is the time for us all to be hopeful for the next year.
This has always been one of the happiest times of the year for my family. I love seeing the joy on children's faces as they are released from school for the holidays and look forward to relaxation, fun, and of course ... presents! I think that this has been one of the greatest rewards for me as a parent - that and seeing them grow to become beautiful young adults. As a single mother of 4, It hasn't always been easy, but I always have hope - I always look forward and strive to make the next year better than the last - for my children, for me, and for all of you.
From all of us here at Lakes Psychiatric Center,
May you be filled with joy, love, and hope during this Holiday Season, and may you have the best year yet in 2024!

Ways to Harness Motivation - Even When You're Not Feeling It!

Motivation plays a role in almost everything we do. From getting out of bed in the morning to tackling a chore to going after a new role at work, it’s ultimately that underlying sense of motivation that drives us from beginning to completion of any task that life throws our way.

Sanam Hafeez, PsyD, an esteemed neuropsychologist and faculty member at Columbia University notes that, "Motivation is a key activity to living a productive life. Without motivation, it is hard for people to complete important tasks, find a work-life and home-life balance, and essentially, make the most of every single day."

Mental Health Tip:
Work Your Strengths
Work your strengths. Do something you're good at to build self-confidence, then tackle a tougher task.
Mental Health Tip:
Take Social Media Breaks
More than 70% of Americans use social media, which has been linked to conditions like depression and anxiety, according to the Pew Research Center. Try taking regular breaks, even if it’s just for a couple of days at a time.
