History Program Winter Hours
Winter Hours Begin December 1

As the fall season comes to a close, the History Program is shifting to its winter hours. Beginning in December, the History Program will be open for visitors and guided tours on Fridays and Saturdays through the winter season.

We are currently offering self-guided tours and our Experience King's Chapel guided tour where visitors explore the ground level, crypt, and gallery of King's Chapel's 1754 building. Brush up on your King's Chapel history or take some friends along to get a tour from one of our engaging, knowledgeable educators! Click here to plan your visit.

Although our hours have changed, we’re happy to work with school and group tours interested in scheduling a trip to King’s Chapel outside of our standard winter hours. For more information about scheduling group tours, please contact the History Program Director.

As the weather grows colder, be sure to follow us on social media for updates regarding weather-related closures or cancellations.

Extended Hours During December School Vacation Week

The History Program will be open additional days during December Vacation. Whether you have a break from school or work or have family and friends visiting from out of town, consider making a trip to King’s Chapel the week following Christmas.

Join us for a self-guided visit or guided tour between 10am-4pm Wednesday December 29 through Saturday January 1. Regular winter hours resume the first week of January.
Holiday History at King's Chapel
Home for the Holidays: Online Content and At-Home Activities

Did you know that King’s Chapel is one of, if not the first, churches in New England to celebrate Christmas? Holiday traditions at King’s Chapel date back to the 1680s, at a time when celebrating Christmas was actually illegal in Massachusetts!

For the second year, the King’s Chapel History Program is delighted to offer virtual content and activities sharing the history of Christmas for you to explore from the comfort of your home!

Try your hand at our ‘Holiday History Trivia,’ or explore four themes related to Christmas history at King’s Chapel and beyond: decorating with greens and Christmas trees, Christmas feasts and treats throughout history, Christmas music, and Christmas lights! Each theme includes a related blog post and at-home activities.

Holiday History at King’s Chapel

Visitors to the History Program throughout December will have the opportunity to dive deeper into the history of “decking the halls” through pop-up programming presented by our team of Historic Site Educators. Interactive activities also invite visitors to share their holiday and winter traditions.
