During Advent Carolyn and I will also be sending out a daily Advent prayer or reflection. If you were on the Lenten email list you will automatically be carried over to the Advent prayers. If you'd like to be added please just reply to this email and let me know.
Another highlight for the month of December includes the launch of Wayne Stewart's book about St. Laurence, The Little Church that Can. We'll see and hear from that book at a launch party after the service on Sunday, December 8th.
Wednesday, December 18th anyone who for whatever reasons finds the Christmas season difficult is invited to join us for a simple, quiet, 'Longest Night' service. This service allows time to reflect on things and people we have lost. The service is followed by a lasagna dinner. All are welcome but to assist with planning please sign up on the sheet at the church and/or reply to this email. This service is not just for 'St. Laurence' but for the whole community so if you know of anyone who is struggling with a loss this season please invite them.
This year's Christmas pageant will be on Sunday, December 22 at the 10 am service. Barbie is taking a year off so it will be a bit simpler this year but still lots of fun and still an opportunity for children of all ages to dress up. We will have a short rehearsal on Saturday, December 21st at 4 pm and then share a pizza dinner together. All welcome!
And then of course we will get to Christmas. Christmas Eve services will be at 5 and 8 pm. We keep the 5 pm short and sweet (lots of younger kids!) and take a bit more time at the 8 pm to include a sermon and the choir.
Advent calendars will be available at the church starting at the Saturday potluck and then again on Sundays. Please take the time this Advent season to quiet and open your heart and to make room for Christ to be born. If you click on the image below you can watch a short St. Laurence Advent video.
The special Christmas envelopes this year will be directed to our partner church in Ramleh, Israel . The money raised will go towards the creation of a sacristy including the purchase of a closet to store vestments, sacred vessels, etc. The estimated cost for this is $2000.00 US
With every blessing,
