“I heard a bird sing in the dark of December. A magical thing. And sweet to remember. We are nearer to Spring than we were in September. I heard a bird sing in the dark of December.”
―  Oliver Herford
December at the Art Center
This is the month of the shortest day of the year. But from here, the days will only get longer and we start to realize that Spring is right around the corner. Our two favorite coping mechanisms during the cold of winter: Art and Shopping!

The Fuller Lodge Art Center has both right now with the annual Affordable Arts show on display. Get your holiday gifts from local artists! We also have a collaborative exhibit in the Portal Gallery featuring the artwork of Betty Lehnus and Sandi J. Ludescher with their show, "From Our Mountains to Yours: Sharing Visions of the Land of Enchantment". And while our Fall semester of classes is coming to an end, we will be releasing the Spring semester this month! So stick around this December and see what's new and what's on the horizon!
Our Annual
Affordable Arts Show
We continue our tradition of art with a special flair at affordable prices. In this season of gift giving, we aim to present northern New Mexico with unique, quality artwork that won’t break the bank. Every year, the gallery space is transformed into a shopper’s paradise, full of one-of-a-kind items that would make ideal gifts for Christmas, Hanukkah, December birthdays, or any other occasion.

Holiday Open House
Come early and stay later! The Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos will stay open until 6:00 pm to celebrate our Holiday Open House. Get into the holiday spirit while shopping our Affordable Arts show, featuring the work of over 100 local and regional artists. Enjoy Christmas music, meet some of our artists, and help yourselves to cookies and cider. Our Holiday Open House is held in conjunction with Los Alamos' WinterFest. The Art Center will close at 6:00 pm to watch the annual Holiday Light Parade and the lighting of the trees at Ashley Pond.
In the Portal Gallery over the holidays, we have been featuring the artwork of Sandi Ludescher and Betty Lehnus. They have their own collaborative exhibit titled, “From Our Mountain to Yours: Sharing Visions of the Land of Enchantment”. Celebrate the vistas and landscapes that you will only find in New Mexico.
The show will run from November 17, 2018 through January 5, 2019.
There will be an Artist's Reception from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 8, during our Holiday Open House.
FLAC is HIRING!
Class Coordinator
The Fuller Lodge Art Center is looking for a dedicated, deadline-oriented staff member to coordinate classes. The person selected for this position will work directly with staff, instructors, and students. The Class Coordinator is responsible for seeing classes through from start to finish and ensuring a positive experience for all participants involved in the 3 distinct semesters yearly. More specifically the Class Coordinator oversees scheduling classes for adults and children, handling classroom booking, supervising children’s classes, facilitating off-site classes, handling student registration and inquiries, supervising Summer Interns, and directing the Summer Art Camp.
Bookkeeper
The Fuller Lodge Art Center is also hiring a bookkeeper. General duties include, but are not limited to: Record keeping using Quickbooks, daily banking deposits, bill paying, payroll, collecting contracts and issuing NTTC’s, ordering office supplies, paying teachers, interns, and artists, monthly bank reconciliation, and regular coordination with outside accountant. Bookkeeper may occasionally be required to provide extra support to day-to-day Art Center programming.
Calls for Art
Have you taken a class, taught a class, or been part of an ongoing art group at the Fuller Lodge Art Center in 2018? We would love to show off your work!

CLASS ACTION is a fee-free, non-juried exhibit for those of you who have created artwork here. Show off those creations! You can put a price tag on them or mark them as NFS and keep them for yourselves after the show. We want to use YOUR work to inspire all of the students who wish to sign up for 2019 classes.
Our first juried show of the year is FLY ON THE WALL! You have the inside scoop, now let us in on the secret! What can you discover by stepping back to observe? Chronicle the candid and intimate, the wild and the shy, the times when the makeup is off and there is nothing to hide behind. These special moments, when emotions are raw and the guard is down, hold the greatest truths. Can you, as the artist, become invisible enough to let your subject matter do its own talking?
A New Season of Classes!
Next month begins a new semester of classes for adults, teens, and children! While the Wednesday afternoon classes are still being scheduled, we can give you a sneak peek of what's coming up for the adults.

Consider trying something new through an art class at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. We sell Gift Certificates that can be applied to classes, making a great gift for somebody in your life as well!
Deborah Brink will be back by popular demand doing fused glass tiles for adults and teens!
Delores Daniels will also be back teaching how to weave a basket using horsehair.
Susan Lime will be teaching the art of wet felting and students will take home their own ornaments.
Rebecca Roelant-Wauson will be back with a couple of classes, one of which will be all about book binding.
Jeanne Hyland will also be returning to teach her watercolor workshops.
New to us instructor Brian Arthur will be teaching a class on nature mold casting!
