A $20 Bus Ticket That
Transformed into a Hundredfold
Almost 50 years ago, Mr. Larry Hausner, a 19-year-old from Nebraska, knocked on the rectory door at Saint Anne Parish in Santa Ana, CA. He told the priest who answered the door that he needed money to buy a bus ticket to Las Vegas, NV where he had a job waiting for him. The priest asked him to wait and came back with $20.00. Larry went to Las Vegas, got the job where he worked for six years before he started his awning business. Recently, Larry returned to Saint Anne’s and visited the school, where he met Principal Sister Teresa Lynch, CSJ. He learned the school needs a structure between the front office and the Campbell Center, where students gather for lunch and other activities during the day to protect the entrance from rain. Larry offered to build the structure himself at a much-reduced rate to repay the initial $20.00 gift forward. The $20 gift has been “miraculously” transformed even more than a hundredfold.

Casa Alitas Welcome Center
The Casa Alitas Welcome Center for the Migrants in Tucson, AZ moved into its new and spacious location on August 8, 2019. The Catholic Community Services continues to operate the program in its new location
in partnership with the City of Tucson and Pima County which owns the property. It is a very impressive model of collaboration which takes care of our migrant brothers and sisters. At the new welcome center, the sense of family with volunteers and guests grows new and deepens old friendships. Since August 8th, we have received/served 2,484 men, women and children and since October of 2018, we served 17,418 people seeking asylum. Our volunteers still provide extra touches to encourage human dignity and the rights of every person who passes through our door. We hear and hold with reverence the most harrowing stories. Catholic Community Services has created a vast network of faith-filled people, beyond church or synagogue or mosque;
beyond the walls we have put around our faith practices. God is doing a new thing here, knitting us together in new ways to create a place of peace, compassion and acceptance here on Earth. Love truly shines at Casa Alitas Welcome Center in Tucson.
Sister Constance Fitzgerald Is 106!

Her younger sister, Sister Anne Gertrude, is 104 years old; and their other sister, Sister Catherine Anita, looks down from heaven. Sister Constance entered the CSJs in 1930 and spent significant time as an elementary school teacher and
administrator. For most of her years, her ministry was as an outstanding secondary English teacher. Phrases that describe Constance are champion of justice, friend to many, dedicated teacher, and of course, a wonderful CSJ.
