December.. Advent… a season, a time when we wait and worry!
This advent feels like it arrived last March with the pandemic, with social unrest, lockdowns, masks and social distancing. We are hidden away– waiting …waiting… waiting for the end of this. O God, -–it is too much for us. We want better days. So, let us turn from dissatisfaction and stress to wisdom.
Oh God, open our ears to hear the readings of Advent. We hunger for the days described by Isaiah the prophet. Will the wolf of injustice ever lie down with the lamb of peace? Will the rose of reconciliation bloom from the stump of racism? Will the leopard of the powerful AND RICH become neighbor to the poor kid goat? We pray, Oh God, REND the heavens and come down to us! Rain down on us, flood us with your goodness. And do exactly that in the silence of these days, in the quiet and emptiness of our hearts. We must become the lambs of peace, roses of reconciliation, poor kid goats and dear neighbors.
Let us now REND our hearts, tear them open so God with us –Emmanuel comes again and again and AGAIN!
Blessed Advent, Merry Christmas, Forever Peace to you all!
