I hope that this letter finds you keeping warm and enjoying moments of togetherness that the holidays can bring. I’m grateful for the busy season that marks Manna Food Center’s end-of-year because it allows for opportunities for connection with our community, volunteers, and the Manna team. The good spirits, determination, and coordination among donors, volunteers, and staff sustain service in this busy season of inclement weather, increased need, and transition.
One special moment of recent fellowship was Manna’s participation in a service event hosted by Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff at the Vice President’s residence. A new national strategy to end hunger calls for a “whole of society” focus on hunger, nutrition, and health. By inviting the Senate Spouse Organization to learn about childhood hunger and proven programs like Smart Sacks, Mr. Emhoff created a bi-partisan opportunity to learn and act together in the spirit of this season of hope and light in darkness. Inspired by decorations featuring menorahs and Christmas trees, the group connected through shared commitment to serve and packed dozens of bags of healthy, tasty meal ingredients for students at Bel Pre Elementary. Keep reading for photos and details of the day.
Read on also to catch-up on this month’s Breaking Bread session. We also want to take this opportunity to share a huge thank you to all who helped us reach our goal on Giving Tuesday. Lastly, all of us here at Manna want to extend our warmest wishes for a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
