The longest running and largest professional school counseling conference in Texas is coming Feb 9-11 to San Antonio!
Co-hosted with the
Texas School Counselor Association, the Annual Professional School Counselor Conference is designed specifically for professional counselors providing services in educational settings for elementary and secondary students.

2019 TCA Professional Award Winners
TCA celebrated 17 individuals, the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA), and the Capital of Texas Counseling Association (CTCA) for their professional accomplishments and dedication to professional counseling on November 14, 2019. Submit an Article for the TAHEAD Newsletter
The
Texas Association for Humanistic Education and Development (TAHEAD) is inviting article submissions for their 2019-2020 edition of the TAHEAD Newsletter, which will focus on the theme of “Human Connection: Counseling, Supervision, and Teaching.” Articles related to humanistic education and development addressing this theme will be considered for publication.
Submissions should be no longer than five pages and prepared in accordance with APA format.
The deadline to submit an article for potential publication is February 15, 2020 by 5 pm. Please submit articles for consideration via email to

Members Sought for the Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is looking for members to serve on the Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee. If you are interested in issues that impact older adults and the Aging Texas Well initiative, you can
apply by 11:59 pm on December 23. An Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee member must regularly participate in committee meetings and other meetings as needed. Committee meetings are held about once every three months in Austin or at the call of the presiding officer. First, review the
application letter and then
apply directly through the Texas HHSC website.

Adding LPCs to Medicare
There are now 100 bipartisan cosponsors for the Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2019 -
but only one, Sheila Jackson Lee, from Texas. This federal legislation would provide for coverage of marriage and family therapist services and mental health counselor services under Medicare.
If your federal legislator is not a cosponsor of H.R. 945 or S. 286, please continue to contact their offices to let them know that their support is vital to the success of this important legislation.

Commissioner of Education Proposed Rules
|
|
The comment period is open for proposed new rules to
19 TAC 89 on transition assistance for highly mobile students who are homeless or in substitute care. The proposed rules reflect changes mandated by SB 1220 (85R) and require schools develop systems to ease transitions and establish procedures to lessen the adverse impact of movement on students. Enrollment conferences to address credit recovery and completion, attendance plans, behavior and discipline, college readiness and social and emotional supports are mandated and may include counselors.

Texas Jaycee Scholarship Application
|
|
The Texas Jaycee Foundation Scholarship Program grants $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary Texas college, university or vocational/technical school. The number of scholarships awarded annually is at the discretion of the Foundation. Applicant must be a full time student or employed full time while attending school part time. Checks awarded will be paid directly to an accredited institution in the State of Texas. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2020.
