Message from our CEO
December centers around thoughts of returning home. Families and friends gather to spend time and share food, finding comfort and renewal in their own traditions. With two new homes already under construction on Forbes Street in London and plans underway to build in St. Thomas early next year, Habitat Heartland is helping to bring more local families home. At the same time, we are preparing to open a new ReStore in an exciting new location at Oxford and Wonderland. You can expect to see it open for business early in 2020. Until then, please continue to shop, donate and volunteer at the 6 ReStores in our region. Our holiday items are already on the shelves ready for you to take home at low prices and more arrive every day.
As 2019 draws to a close, we at Habitat Heartland wish to extend our thanks to all customers, donors, sponsors, homeowners, volunteers and community partners for supporting our vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Happy Holidays and sincere wishes for a prosperous and joyful 2020.

FREE Financial Literacy Workshops
Habitat Heartland has joined with Libro Credit Union to make financial literacy training available in London and will be appearing soon in St.Thomas as well. We were happy to make these sessions available to community groups especially during November which was Financial Literacy Month in Canada. Improving personal financial literacy is one way to build strength, stability and self-reliance in the lives of those around us.

Genworth Meaning of Home Contest Begins in January
Grades 4, 5 and 6 students across Canada are invited to submit a poem or essay explaining what home means to them. It’s a great way for students to engage in an interactive and fun way, and it teaches youth the importance of safe, affordable housing. Each entry results in a $10 donation to a local Habitat and the winner in each grade gets to direct a $30,000 grant to a local Habitat build. Nine runners-up (3 per grade) will also get to direct a $10,000 grant towards a local Habitat build. Additional prizes include an iPad, and class pizza party for each of the grand prize winners.
