Grant Opportunities: Innovations in Nutrition Programs and Services

ACL has released two Innovations in Nutrition Programs and Services (INNU) funding opportunities for cooperative agreements to establish or replicate innovative approaches to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and outcomes of nutrition programs and services within the aging services network.

ACL is seeking to elevate the work occurring at the local level. Please send photos of vaccination clinics and other current activities and include key info about details in each photo:

Date (please be current, noting Oct, Nov, Dec)

What the photo is showing (e.g., vaccination clinic, grab-and-go meals with vaccine info, etc.)

Who is in the photo (e.g. staff from the XYZ AAA, older adults enjoying lunch, etc.)

Where the photo was taken (city, state)

Any context about the activity (e.g., one of four pop-up vaccine clinics XYZ AAA coordinated during the month of xyz)

Food is Medicine Coalition Project
The Food is Medicine Coalition along with USC Keck School of Medicine is conducting a two-year long study of the effect of medically tailored meals on indigenous people living with diabetes in Los Angeles County. Preliminary results indicated a 38 percent decrease in A1C scores for participants in the first six months. Learn more about this study, Project Angel Food’s Native American Diabetes Project.

Healthy Food, Healthy Brain Rack Card Series
The International Association for Indigenous Aging has planned a six-series of ready-to-use rack cards for American Indian and Alaska Native nations and tribal serving organizations. The purpose is to provide a healthy eating-focused message that includes practical advice and culturally relevant recipes. The rack cards may be distributed through senior centers, inter-tribal organizations, healthcare facilities, administrative offices, tribal newspapers/radio stations, and as mailers to tribal members. Annual Summary of Statistics on Older Adults
The Profile of Older Americans is an annual summary of the available statistics related to the older population in the United States. Principal sources of data are the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The profile illustrates the shifting demographics of Americans age 65 and older. It includes key topic areas such as future population growth, marital status, living arrangements, income, employment, and health. This year's report includes a special section on family caregivers.

Search. Find. Help.
An Online Resource Library
In 2021, the CDC Foundation launched Search. Find. Help., an online resource library that connects organizations that support older adults and their caregivers to over 300 resources and programs in the U.S. and that help these populations during public health emergencies, such as disease outbreaks like COVID-19. Search. Find. Help. also includes an action plan to help organizations select, adapt, and implement programs to meet the needs of their communities.

The Senior Nutrition Program Featured in Social Security Offices Across the Country
Has the volume of participants you serve increased over the past few weeks? It may be due to new promotional
posters for the Senior Nutrition Program that are now being displayed on closed-circuit TV monitors in over 1,200 local Social Security offices across the country! The partnership can help connect potential meal participants with the services they need in their own communities.
