Level Up Leadership Training
|
|
|
Are You a Club Officer?
Plan Ahead to Attend the 2nd Round of Leadership Training!
Leadership training is for all leaders in District 42, however, club executive officers attend training for their roles twice a year to help them support their clubs. It has been shown that clubs with all 7 of their officers trained have a high probability of becoming Distinguished or greater.
“As a club officer, my favourite training to attend is the Winter session. You have had time to understand your role and now you can come to training to meet peers in other clubs and share ideas. Although we meet in clubs all across the District, you would be surprised how much we have in common and can share with each other.”
Ryan Rupchan DTM,
D42 Program Quality Director
We are happy to report over 300 people participated in the November Level Up Leadership Training Sessions. In addition to learning how to level up their club experiences, they laughed and danced. Obviously, you don't want to experience FOMO; therefore register today for one or all of the remaining three opportunities in January and February.

Did you know that District Leaders receive training too?
Just like Club Officers, Area Directors and Division Directors attend specialized training to support them in supporting the clubs in District 42.
Are you shadowing a current Area Director with hopes of being appointed in the role for the 2021/2021 program year?
Talk to your Area Director to find out how you could qualify to attend the specialized District Leader training on January 30, 2021 and get a head start for your program year.
Only serious applications will be considered.

When several countries shut down banning social gatherings of all kinds, Toastmasters meetings shifted online. People worked on their online presentation skills, staying mute, online clapping without interrupting, engaging backgrounds and more. This transition also allowed members all over the world to travel internationally without the actual hassle of travelling which boosted membership in many clubs.

Ilana Herzberg
Brand Strategist at Toastmasters International
|
|
|
On October 23, 2020 Toastmasters District 42 had a special visitor all the way from Denver, Colorado – Ilana Herzberg, current brand strategist at Toastmasters International. She presented an informative lesson about Toastmasters branding and how it goes beyond the logo. In her words: “It’s easy to get lost in the fonts, colours and logos… but it’s so much more than that – it’s what it represents! A brand is alive; it’s organic. It’s the combination of every single touch point that gets [communicated] to a member.”

Acknowledging the important role played by public relations in building membership, we are pleased to announce the District 42 Public Relations Club Challenge. Alisen Dopf experienced information overload when she joined Toastmasters. As a new member she relied on in-person meetings to learn about Toastmasters. However, when the pandemic hit, it became a challenge to transition from in-person to online meetings. Alisen realized her situation was not unique. As a result, she decided to create the New Member Boot Camp.

Recognition makes members feel happy, valued, and that they are achieving their goals. It is motivating, it is collaborative, it helps build a team. Additionally, it builds confidence and
self-esteem. I like to think of Toastmasters District 42’s Recognition and Incentive program as the “Ultimate Membership Retention Tool”. Consequently, members who are noticed and have their successes acknowledged, stay. Finally, this program is offered for free to every Club and Member.
District 42 recognizes the work, as well as the achievement. Therefore, incentives may vary each year, depending on the quality components being focused on.

Distinguished Toastmasters and Long-time Members
|
|
|
Do you know that less than 1% of members achieve the
Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award?
My club, Literally Speaking Toastmasters, has 7 DTM members, and several others that have been members for many years.
Why is it important that these members stay? What do they get out of membership? The depth of experience and professionalism they bring to roles raises the bar for all members and is a model for new members. They are vital!
How can we continue to meet their needs? Are you a DTM? Are you a long-time member?
Please take my survey to help inform me and form the basis of my presentation.

Toastmasters District 42 has a new award. It recognizes the one-year journey of an Area Director. The DARE award augments the traditional scoreboard performance approach.
DARE considers the four elements which yield success as a director. Developing a leadership style reinforces the ‘where leaders are made’ Toastmasters International hashtag. Achieving tasks reinforces the district mission of supporting the clubs. Relating to the executive and members reinforces that areas work as a team. Encouraging clubs to be recognized reinforces the concept of quality clubs. DARE recognizes that an area director becomes a leader and that effort makes the difference.
