Hello Friends and Clients
Mother’s Day is a a tradition that unites the planet. A mother, a grandmother, an auntie--they always seemed to know their way around the kitchen and our hearts.
I celebrate Mother’s Day as a tribute to my grandmother who raised me and taught me her love of cooking. Gran Alma was from Oklahoma, a hard place to be during the Depression. When the WPA offered an opportunity to work, she and Pop moved to the shipyards of Antioch, California. After the war, they made their way to Fresno and settled there, my home town. My German Chocolate Cake is a treasured recipe from her and I make it every year in her honor. She was Mom to me.
Each of us may have a Mom, a Grandma or an Auntie who shaped our life. Most likely, they probably made something special to eat for us that we still hold dear. What special memory do you have? I invite you to share your special recipe with me as a tribute to Mother’s Day. And to mothers, grandmas and special aunties all around the world...
Happy Mother's Day!

Denise Lang and Ashley Rohrer
The Due Diligence Dynamic Duo Team
As we look at our March numbers for Flathead County, comparing 2022 to 2023, we see a fairly predictable picture. New listings, closed sales and median price are down. Days on market are up. Because I am always an optimist and a realist, I have hope for the market due to the increase of inventory. It is up over 150% from 2022. That means we have more properties on the market and when buyers show up this spring (as they always do), I think they will notice. People come here to vacation, then they fall in love with the Flathead, then they start looking for property.
Thinking about buying or selling? I can help you meet your goals. I'll listen to your wants and needs, and together, we'll set expectations based on current market conditions. Remember, not every buyer is looking for a mortgage and many buyers are looking for a safe and stable place to put their money.
This is a time for new and bold thinking. I am known for walking all the way with my clients, giving them everything I have and never letting them slip. Times may have changed but I have not. My knowledge, experience and creativity will help you meet your needs. If you want to make a change, we can and will do it--together. Call me, we'll make it happen. As ever, Denise

CERI PONDERS...How well do we socialize with other pets?
|
|
People are curious. Does my Corgi breed get along easily with other family pets? It all comes down to early socialization. That is what decides our personality.
Fortunately, I was properly socialized as a puppy by my humans and got used to other fur babies in the house. (They come and go in droves, btw)! We like to play and have fun. Although, I do have to admit, sometimes that fun is a little mischievous. Everything is fine as long as I am the boss of the house and fortunately Heidi (my other fur baby) is OK with that. So we get along great.
.
If you are going to bring a Corgi into your home, I recommend introducing your puppy to your other dogs and pets as soon as you get him to your house. Early exposure to all sounds and smells in a safe manner will help your puppy get familiar with the new environment.
Here are some more tips for bringing a Corgi in a house with other pets.

DENISE'S COOKING CORNER - My Gran Alma's German Chocolate Icing and my version adapted from hers.
|
|
|
My grandmother sent this recipe to me when she was 64 years old, six months before my grandfather passed away. We didn’t know he was ill. Of course she and I had been cooking and baking together all my life. She was in Fresno and I was married and living in Florida. Eric and Drake were not yet a twinkle in my eye. Eric was born 14 months later. She lived on for many years cooking and sharing her recipes until she passed two weeks before 9/11. As she used to say about her German Chocolate Cake. "It's not about the cake. It's about the icing," which I share with you today!
Note: The left side is her recipe. The right side is my version of her recipe.

DENISE'S READING CORNER - Yes, Chef a memoir by Marcus Samuelsson
|
|
Back story...My son, Eric, was the head chef at Marcus Samuelsson's signature restaurant in Norway. A number of years ago, Eric wanted to bring American Thanksgiving dishes to the Oslo diners. He solicited me for all of my holiday recipes because as he says, "my mom is the best cook I know." Well, who do you think showed up that Thanksgiving week? Yup, Marcus Samuelsson. His skepticism of a week of American Thanksgiving meals gave way when he tasted the dishes. His response, "Wow! I think I love your mom." Here he is plating my recipes at Restaurant Norda in Oslo.
Now about the book... Marcus has an amazing story. In his words. "I've never seen a photo of my mother. They tell me she was nice, pretty, smart. I instinctively know how she cooked. Her Ethiopian spice mixture is in my DNA."
At 3 years old, Marcus's mother walked and carried him and his sister 75 miles to a hospital in Addis Adaba. All three had tuberculosis. Marcus and his sister survived and were adopted by a Swedish family. Like me and my Gran, he developed his love of cooking with his Swedish grandmother, much different food than his native Ethiopia. Thus began his journey of "chasing flavors. Travelling all over the world as a chef, Marcus has created dining experiences for kings, presidents, musicians and artists. This is the memoir of his journey, a personal discovery and a quest to find his roots. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
