This Sunday: Dedicating a Very Special Godly Play Story About Queen Emma

All are invited to join Hālau Waʻa Episcopal (Kapolei) on Sunday, September 6, 2026, for a joyful morning of mele, hula, and worship, beginning at 10:15 a.m.


This special Sunday will mark The Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick's final visitation to Hālau Waʻa Episcopal. We invite the community to gather in thanksgiving for Bishop Fitzpatrick's faithful leadership and ministry throughout the Diocese of Hawaiʻi.


The day will also include the dedication of the Godly Play story and materials honoring Queen Emma, one of the founders of the Episcopal Church in Hawaiʻi and a beloved saint of our islands.


The Godly Play Group in Hawaiʻi has been given the honor of developing a Godly Play story about Queen Emma. Through a partnership between The Episcopal Church and the Godly Play Foundation, and with support from a grant from the United Thank Offering, several ministries of The Episcopal Church were invited to identify and oversee the development of stories celebrating saints who represent their unique cultures and histories.

JoAnne Lagman, Missioner for Asian American Ministries, and Heather Ingersoll, Executive Director of the Godly Play Foundation, invited Jenny Wallace to lead the writing process for the Emmalani story.


Throughout the summer of 2026, Hālau Waʻa Episcopal's Godly Play program has been dedicated to the development of this new story. Our keiki have helped pilot the script and materials, engaging in hoʻolohe (deep listening), learning, sharing hula and mele, and offering their insights as the story has taken shape.


We hope you will join us for this historic and joyful occasion as we celebrate Bishop Fitzpatrick's ministry and dedicate this new Godly Play resource honoring Queen Emma's enduring legacy of faith, compassion, and service. Please join us!
