Do you struggle with helping your children dive deeper into God’s word?

We understand.

We’re here to help you be the spiritual hero of your family in ways that are fun and inspiring. The key to success is turning lessons into action.

We are providing materials to explore, along with questions and cues to help you engage with your kids on the way to school, during a meal, whenever you have a few moments together.

Your family will be challenged to dive deep into the Bible story by modeling with clay or playdough, building with toy bricks, crafting a mural, creating a short video, or…? Use your combined imaginations and create something that represents the story to you and your kids.

Finally, send us a photo of [or link to] your creation, and we’ll post it on our Immanuel Facebook page!

As a great reminder to all of us, we can follow Jesus' example and study God's Word, no matter how old we are. We can ask questions and it's okay to not have all the answers. What we are creating by diving deep together as a family are memories with our children as we grow closer in our relationships with God and with each other.

Jesus Calms the Sea, Mark 4:35-41

In this reading, we will learn about how Jesus calmed a storm when He and his disciples were on a boat. Close your eyes and listen with your ears as you draw a picture of this event in your mind as it is read to you. Pretend that you are there!

As evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So, they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind [although other boats followed]. But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey Him!”

Diving Deeper
Here is your Bible challenge!

Think about the pictures you saw in your minds as you listened to this story from God's Word. Work together as a family to create what you saw with blocks or toy bricks, through a drawing, using clay or playdough, popsicle sticks, create a short video--anything you imagine!

When you are finished, take a picture of your creation [or a link to your video] and send it to Mary Wert, Director of Children's Ministries, at mwert@immanuelbatavia.org and we'll post the pictures we receive to our Facebook and Instagram pages!
