PROJECT HIGHLIGHT:
BEDROCK MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
Triple-Cased Bedrock Monitoring Well Installation to Characterize Chlorinated Solvents in Groundwater
Whitestone utilized combined air and mud rotary drilling methods to install a triple-cased bedrock monitoring well at a former manufacturing facility located in Fairfield, New Jersey to investigate the vertical distribution of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOs) detected in overburden groundwater at levels exceeding applicable NJDEP Groundwater Quality Standards (GWQS). Overburden at the site is comprised of dense glacial till with frequent bounders and cobbles, constituting a very difficult subsurface environment for installing monitoring wells. Whitestone designed the construction of the bedrock monitoring well and determined that a triple-cased well was required to preclude vertical downward migration of CVOs in overburden groundwater during well installation. Groundwater sampling and analyses of the triple-cased well is forthcoming to characterize bedrock groundwater quality.
